AUMA SIMA2 Master Station for Actuators
Overview
The AUMA SIMA2 Master Station is a high-performance control and supervision system for electric actuators and other field devices. It sits between the host-level distributed control system (DCS) and the field-level fieldbus network, takes over actuator control and the evaluation of a multitude of feedback signals, and presents the host with only the concentrated data needed for normal operation. For plants without their own DCS it can also run as a stand-alone control system, with all connected actuators operated manually through its integral 7-inch multi-touchscreen.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA SIMA2 to customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. We help system integrators across the Sultanate of Oman design fieldbus topologies and redundancy concepts for large actuator populations.
Operating Principle of the AUMA SIMA2
The AUMA SIMA2 communicates with the actuators over RS-485 using either Modbus RTU or Profibus DP, with twisted, screened copper cable according to IEC 61158. Each master station can manage up to four independent, galvanically isolated and logically separated actuator networks in single-channel or redundant line topology as well as loop topology, with up to 247 participants per network and a total of up to 988 field devices per station. Without repeaters a Modbus RTU line reaches 1.2 km and 32 actuators; with repeaters approximately 10 km and up to 126 actuators.
Towards the host, the AUMA SIMA2 offers Modbus RTU in single-channel or redundant form, or Modbus TCP/IP over 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet with up to four simultaneous connections. Because it polls all actuators cyclically and distributes the host commands to individual devices, host communication is reduced to a minimum and the DCS is less loaded during commissioning and operation. When field and host protocols differ, the station can be used as a gateway to harmonise them, and a built-in OPC UA interface and integrated web server allow remote access through a browser.
Engineering Design of the AUMA SIMA2
The standard AUMA SIMA2 housing is designed for installation in 19-inch systems (4 HE/84 TE) with an integral 7-inch multi-touchscreen as the user interface. Options include a housing for mounting on a control cabinet mounting plate (483 × 177 × 340 mm W × H × D) and a desktop housing with front handle and feet. Power supply is 110–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with a 24 V DC option of about 1 A, and the consumption is approximately 20 W per SIMA subsystem. The RS-485 terminals use spring clamp terminals behind hinged front doors, and the fieldbus termination can be activated at each interface.
Redundancy is built in at several levels. Two complete SIMA subsystems, each with its own 7-inch touchscreen and redundant power supply, can sit in one housing as a hot-standby pair or as two independent systems, saving cabinet space; alternatively, two housings can be used for up to eight RS-485 interfaces. The subsystems monitor each other, and in case of failure the changeover to the redundant channel takes place without interruption. The user interface is available in English and German and can be switched during operation. Configuration and communication parameters are set through the HMI.

- Integration of third-party devices with Modbus RTU or Profibus DP interfaces on request, in addition to the AUMA actuator families.
Industrial Applications
A master station is most valuable where many valves must be controlled from one place over long distances: tank farms, refineries, pipeline terminals, water transmission systems and power plants. In Oman the AUMA SIMA2 is relevant to storage and loading terminals at Sohar and Duqm, large desalination and water transmission networks, and utility sites where dozens or hundreds of actuators share a few fieldbus lines. With its stand-alone mode the station can also give smaller plants a pre-configured valve control system with a local touchscreen, without requiring a DCS.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC distributes the AUMA SIMA2 with compatible AUMA actuators and controls, including SA/SQ .2 actuators with AC 01.2 and ACExC 01.2 controls, TIGRON, PROFOX and further ranges listed in the technical data. Our team supports system integrators and EPC contractors in Oman and the GCC with architecture, redundancy options and protocol selection. For projects that combine the AUMA SIMA2 with other drives or controls, Seven Star LLC also supplies the AUMA MATIC AM/AC integral actuator controls, the AUMA ACExC 01.2 and the AUMA PROFOX-M.

Request a Quote for AUMA SIMA2
To plan a system around the AUMA SIMA2, send Seven Star LLC the number of actuators, the fieldbus protocol, the host interface and the redundancy level you need. We will map these against the SIMA2 brochure and the Modbus RTU technical datasheet available on this page and prepare a formal RFQ response. In Oman and the GCC, we provide engineering support and supply on request from Muscat.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
