Miller XR-Aluma-Pro Push-Pull MIG Gun for Aluminium Supplied by Seven Star LLC

TIG Torches & MIG Guns

TIG torches and MIG guns carry welding current, shielding gas and, for MIG, the wire to the arc, so they are the part of the system the welder handles all day. Seven Star LLC lists two products here for buyers in Oman: a liquid-cooled MIG/MAG torch from ABICOR BINZEL and a push-pull MIG gun for aluminum from Miller. The range is small and growing, and other torch models, lengths and wear parts can be sourced on request.

How to choose a MIG gun or TIG torch

The first check is the connector on the wire feeder or power source. Next is the current rating at the duty cycle and shielding gas you use, since ratings given for CO2 are higher than for argon mixtures. Air-cooled guns are simpler. Liquid-cooled torches stay smaller and cooler at high current and are the normal choice for long production welds and pulsed welding, particularly in GCC summer temperatures. Soft aluminum wire tends to buckle in a long liner, which is why a push-pull gun with a motor in the handle is used for it. For TIG, the choice also covers head angle, flexible or rigid neck, valve or switch control, and the collet and gas lens sizes.

What to send for a torch quotation

Give the machine and feeder model, process, wire type and diameter or tungsten size, welding current and duty cycle, lead length and cooling type. Add the wear parts you want with the first order, such as contact tips, nozzles and liners.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose a liquid-cooled MIG torch over an air-cooled one?
Air-cooled guns are adequate for moderate currents and intermittent welding. When you weld at high current for long periods, use pulse or spray transfer on argon-rich gas, or work in a hot shop, an air-cooled gun overheats and its wear parts fail quickly. A liquid-cooled torch handles this, but needs a cooler and coolant hoses on the machine.
Why is a push-pull gun used for aluminum wire?
Aluminum wire is soft and has little column strength, so pushing it through several meters of liner causes it to kink and jam at the drive rolls. A push-pull gun has a small motor in the handle that pulls the wire while the feeder pushes, keeping it in light tension. This allows long leads and small wire diameters to feed consistently.
Why does the torch rating depend on the shielding gas?
CO2 cools the torch front end better than argon-rich mixtures, and arcs in mixed gas radiate more heat back into the nozzle and neck. Manufacturers therefore publish a lower current rating for mixed gas than for CO2, and often a further reduction for pulsed welding. Compare the rating for your gas with your actual welding current.
Which MIG torch wear parts should I keep as spares?
Contact tips in each wire diameter, gas nozzles, tip holders or gas diffusers, insulators and liners. Tips and nozzles are changed most often. A worn tip causes an erratic arc and burn-back, and a spatter-filled nozzle disturbs the gas shield and leads to porosity. Send the torch model so the part numbers can be taken from the manufacturer's spare parts list.
What details do you need to quote a TIG torch or MIG gun?
The make and model of the power source and feeder, connector type if known, process, current and duty cycle, shielding gas, and the lead length. For MIG, add wire material and diameter. For TIG, add air or water cooling, head type, valve or switch control and tungsten diameter. Photos of the existing connector help when the machine is an older model.
