Switchgear and distribution equipment receive power from the transformer and divide it safely to motors, panels and buildings. Types of equipment in this category
Low-voltage switchboards such as the Schneider Electric Okken and Prisma iPM and the Siemens SIVACON S8 form main and sub-distribution boards. Enclosure systems like the Rittal TS 8, Schneider Electric Spacial SF and Kaedra house control gear outdoors and indoors. Busbar distribution blocks, Canalis busway trunking and cable ducting distribute current inside panels and across buildings, and terminal blocks from Weidmüller and Schneider Electric make the field connections. Cast resin and dry-type transformers, automatic transfer switches for mains and generator supply, surge protective devices, the ABB REF615 feeder protection relay and Bender ISOMETER insulation monitors for unearthed (IT) systems complete the range.
How to select distribution equipment
Start from the single-line diagram: rated voltage and current, short-circuit rating, form of separation and IP rating. For enclosures, check size, material, IP and IK ratings and cooling for hot climates; in the GCC heat often drives the enclosure choice. Transfer switches are sized by current and number of poles, and surge devices by type (class) and system earthing. Insulation monitors must suit the system voltage and leakage capacitance.

Frequently Asked Questions
It describes how busbars, functional units and terminals are separated inside the board, from form 1 (no separation) to form 4 (each unit and its terminals separated). Higher forms allow safer maintenance while other parts stay live.
In unearthed (IT) systems a first insulation fault does not trip the supply, so operation can continue. An insulation monitoring device such as a Bender ISOMETER warns of the falling insulation resistance so the fault can be found before a second fault causes a trip.
Type 1 devices go at the service entrance where lightning current can enter, type 2 in distribution boards, and type 3 near sensitive equipment. Many installations use coordinated type 1 and type 2 protection.
High ambient temperature and solar load can push internal temperature above component limits. Consider larger enclosures, sun shields, filter fans or cooling units, and check component derating.
