Types of equipment in this category
Multifunction power meters such as the Schneider Electric PowerLogic PM5560, EasyLogic PM2000, Lumel N14 and ND20 and Selec MFM384 show voltage, current, power, energy and harmonics and send data over RS-485 Modbus or Ethernet. DIN-rail energy meters like the Schneider Electric iEM3255 and Selec EM4M serve sub-metering of feeders and tenants, and power quality monitors such as the Enerdis ENERIUM 300 record disturbances. Power factor controllers from Circutor, Lumel and Selec switch capacitor steps; Circutor OPTIM hybrid var compensators and active harmonic filters correct fast-changing loads and harmonics from drives. Line reactors protect drives and the supply, and transducers convert electrical values to analogue signals for a PLC or SCADA.
How to select a power meter
Check the system (single or three phase, three or four wire), the voltage and the current transformer secondary (1 A or 5 A). Choose the accuracy class for billing or monitoring, the measured values and harmonics needed, the mounting (panel cut-out such as 96 x 96 mm, or DIN rail) and the communication protocol. For power factor correction, size the controller by the number of capacitor steps and confirm whether harmonic filtering or detuned steps are needed where drives are installed.

Frequently Asked Questions
For tenant billing, class 1 or better (class 0.5S or 0.2S for high-value feeders) is common. For general monitoring of loads class 1 is normally enough. Check the requirements of the utility or the building owner.
It must match the secondary current of the current transformers. Many modern meters accept both; older panels in the region often use 5 A secondaries.
It measures the power factor and switches capacitor steps in and out to keep it near the target set by the utility, which avoids penalty charges and reduces current in cables and transformers.
Variable speed drives and other electronic loads draw non-sinusoidal current. The harmonics overheat transformers and can damage capacitor banks. Active harmonic filters, detuned capacitor banks and line reactors reduce the problem.
