AUMA PROFOX-M Compact Multi-Turn Actuator
Overview
AUMA PROFOX-M is the compact multi-turn actuator in the PROFOX platform from AUMA Riester GmbH & Co. KG, designed as a single solution for gate valves and globe valves. It covers a torque range from 10 Nm to 100 Nm across the sizes M25, M50 and M100, with output speeds between 0.5 and 14 rpm according to the AUMA PROFOX brochure and is rated for both open-close duty and modulating duty. Plant operators who automate large numbers of small and medium valves, for example on skids, packaged units and utility headers, value the AUMA PROFOX-M because it combines a small footprint with the diagnostic functions normally associated with much larger actuators.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA PROFOX-M to water, power, oil and gas and process customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC, with genuine factory documentation, warranty support and local technical assistance from our Muscat team.
Operating Principle of the AUMA PROFOX-M
The AUMA PROFOX-M converts the rotation of an electric motor into a controlled multi-turn output through a gear stage, and it senses both the position of the valve and the torque it applies. Limit and torque sensing are built in, so the actuator switches off in the end positions either by travel or by torque, depending on what the valve manufacturer requires. The end positions are set with push buttons directly on the device or wirelessly through the AUMA Assistant App, and the same interface is used for commissioning and later adjustments.
A defining characteristic of the PROFOX platform is the variable-speed drive. Rather than running at one fixed speed, the actuator can adapt its positioning speed to each phase of the valve travel, which gives precise control accuracy in modulating applications and allows gentle approach to the end positions. Operation profiles allow the speed to be optimised for different sections of the stroke, which reduces mechanical stress on the valve and the pipework. A torque profile can be recorded as a reference at any time and compared with later profiles, so rising friction or a deteriorating valve becomes visible long before it causes a failure.
Engineering Design of the AUMA PROFOX-M
The housing of the AUMA PROFOX-M is made of rugged metal and achieves enclosure protection IP67 or IP68 together with corrosion protection class C5-M/C5-I according to EN ISO 12944-2. The permitted ambient temperature range extends from -30 °C to +70 °C, which suits both outdoor installation under strong sun and exposure to cold nights in inland regions. Any mounting position is permitted, an important point where space around the valve is limited.
At the centre of the housing sits the FOX-EYE, a clearly visible indication LED that reports the status of both actuator and valve with different colours and blinking patterns. A mechanical position indicator is available for several setting ranges (1–9, 9–14 and 14–27 turns per stroke), and manual operation is possible through a manual drive when power is unavailable. A wide-range power supply unit adapts automatically to 1-phase AC supplies between 100 V and 240 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, and the actuator tolerates voltage peaks while keeping speed and torque constant; a 24 V DC supply version is also offered.
Key Features
The following capabilities make the AUMA PROFOX-M a practical choice for modern valve automation projects:
- Compact multi-turn design covering 10 Nm to 100 Nm with output speeds from 0.5 to 14 rpm for gate and globe valves.
- Open-close and modulating duty in one actuator family, so a single device type can serve both on/off and control valves.
- Variable speed operation that supports premium control accuracy and gentle approach of the end positions.
- FOX-EYE centrally located LED that shows actuator and valve status at a glance, with a display scheme the user can configure.
- End position setting by push buttons or by the AUMA Assistant App over Bluetooth, which simplifies commissioning at the device.
- Fieldbus and signal interfaces including position transmitter, Profibus, Modbus and Profinet for straightforward integration into the DCS.
- Low standby consumption together with actuator and valve diagnostics that enable predictive maintenance.
- Rugged metal housing with IP67/IP68 protection, C5-M/C5-I corrosion protection and an operating range from -30 °C to +70 °C.
Industrial Applications
The AUMA PROFOX-M is used wherever a compact, intelligent actuator is needed on gate and globe valves: municipal water distribution and treatment, seawater and brackish water desalination skids, district cooling plants, power station auxiliary systems, chemical dosing and process skids, and small and medium valves in oil and gas facilities. Its wide-range power supply is helpful on projects in Oman where site supplies at remote pumping stations and industrial estates can fluctuate, and the high corrosion protection class is relevant for coastal installations along the Batinah coast, in Sohar and in Salalah, where salt-laden air attacks ordinary enclosures.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA PROFOX-M together with the matching AUMA gearboxes, controls and accessories, and supports engineering contractors and end users in Muscat and across the GCC with selection, sizing checks against valve torque data, and spare parts planning. Because the PROFOX range can be integrated by fieldbus or by simple 24 V and 4–20 mA signals, it fits both new plants and the modernisation of older control systems. Related AUMA products worth comparing with the AUMA PROFOX-M include the AUMA PROFOX-MX, the AUMA PROFOX-Q and the AUMA SA 07.2 multi-turn actuator, which cover neighbouring duty types and sizes.
