AUMA PROFOX-Q Compact Part-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

The AUMA PROFOX-Q is AUMA’s compact part-turn actuator for butterfly, ball and plug valves, designed as a platform for tailored automation solutions. It covers torques from 32 Nm to 600 Nm across the sizes Q80, Q150, Q300 and Q600 according to the AUMA PROFOX brochure, and handles both open-close duty and modulating duty with variable speed for precise control. Every PROFOX carries a centrally located LED, the FOX-EYE, that gives clearly visible information about the status of both actuator and valve, and the display scheme can be configured by the user. The result is an actuator that is easy to read at a glance, quick to install and straightforward to commission.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA PROFOX-Q to water, HVAC, process and industrial customers in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. The PROFOX-Q is aimed at skids, packaged plant and compact installations where the larger SQ range would be oversized, and where intelligent diagnostics, low standby consumption and App-based commissioning add real value. Seven Star LLC supports engineers with selection, documentation and delivery to project sites in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and beyond.

Operating Principle

The AUMA PROFOX-Q converts motor rotation into a quarter-turn output through a compact gear stage inside a rugged metal housing. Limit and torque sensing is built in, with end positions set either with push buttons on the actuator or through the AUMA Assistant App over Bluetooth, and manual operation is possible through a manual drive. Variable speed gives the actuator accurate positioning and allows the positioning speed to be optimised for each phase of the stroke through operation profiles, while end positions can be approached gently to protect the valve.

Intelligence is what separates the PROFOX-Q from a conventional compact actuator. The device monitors itself and the valve, supports actuator and valve diagnostics, and can record a torque profile that is compared with a stored reference profile, so rising torque demand warns the user of wear or process change before a failure occurs. The AUMA PROFOX-Q can be adapted to new requirements through firmware upgrade and works with CORALINK, the AUMA digital ecosystem that includes the AUMA Assistant App, the AUMA CDT commissioning and diagnostic tool and AUMA Cloud.

Engineering Design of the AUMA PROFOX-Q

The housing of the AUMA PROFOX-Q is made of metal and rated IP67/IP68 with corrosion protection to C5-M/C5-I according to EN ISO 12944-2. It operates from −30 °C to +70 °C and may be mounted in any desired position, which helps where space is tight. The mechanical position indication is available for 90 degree or 120 degree strokes. A wide-range power supply unit adapts automatically to the supply: for 1-phase AC voltages between 100 V and 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz and for DC voltages between 180 V and 300 V, and a 24 V DC version is also available.

On the control side, the PROFOX-Q integrates easily into a DCS. Signals can be exchanged as 24 V or 4 – 20 mA values, or as digital data over fieldbus or Industrial Ethernet, with Profibus, Modbus and Profinet supported, and a position transmitter is available. Modular scaling allows interface boards to be added for additional signals or redundant communication structures. Dimension sheets cover the PF-Q20 to PF-Q40 and PF-Q80 to PF-Q600 size groups, and electrical data sheets are available for 1-phase AC, 3-phase AC and DC supplies.

Key Features

The AUMA PROFOX-Q combines compact size with digital intelligence. Its main strengths are the following.

  • Open-close and modulating duty in one platform, with variable speed for premium control accuracy.
  • FOX-EYE central LED that shows actuator and valve status, configurable by the user.
  • End position setting via push buttons or the AUMA Assistant App, with Bluetooth commissioning.
  • Wide-range power supply: 1-phase 100 V – 240 V AC, 180 V – 300 V DC, with 24 V DC also available.
  • Low standby consumption, actuator and valve diagnostics and predictive maintenance functions.
  • Rugged metal housing, IP67/IP68 enclosure protection and C5-M/C5-I corrosion protection.
  • Easy DCS integration via position transmitter, Profibus, Modbus and Profinet.
  • Mechanical position indication for 90 or 120 degrees and manual operation through a manual drive.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA PROFOX-Q is a strong fit for compact automation tasks: butterfly valves on chilled-water and heating circuits, ball valves in packaged water treatment skids, dosing and chemical lines, and process valves in food, beverage and pharmaceutical utilities. The wide-range supply means the same actuator model can be installed on single-phase mains in a remote pumping station or on a DC supply in a solar or battery-backed site, which is valuable for dispersed infrastructure across Oman. Its low standby consumption and Bluetooth commissioning also reduce operating costs and site visits.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA PROFOX-Q for projects in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, including the industrial zones of Sohar and Salalah and building services projects in Muscat. For hazardous areas, customers can choose the explosion-proof AUMA PROFOX-QX from the same family, and for larger torques the SQ and SQR ranges, so all valve sizes on a site can be automated with a common operating philosophy and a single supplier. If the AUMA PROFOX-Q is not the closest fit for a valve, see the AUMA PROFOX-QX, the AUMA SQ part-turn actuator or the AUMA PROFOX-M for alternatives from the same AUMA family.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.
