How is a damper actuator sized?
By torque. The damper manufacturer gives a torque figure per square meter of damper area, which depends on the blade and seal design and on the air velocity. Multiply by the damper area and choose an actuator with a margin above the result. Then fix the control type, open/close or modulating, the supply voltage, and whether a spring return is needed to reach a safe position on power loss.
When does an electrical enclosure need a cooling unit instead of a fan and filter?
Fan-and-filter cooling only works when the surrounding air is cooler than the temperature wanted inside the cabinet, and when that air is clean enough to be drawn through it. Where ambient temperature is higher than the target, or the air carries dust, salt or oil mist, a closed-loop enclosure cooling unit is used so that cabinet air never mixes with outside air.
What must the certificate of an explosion-protected air conditioner show?
The equipment marking should state the zone or equipment category, the gas group and the temperature class, and all three must cover the classification of the area where the unit will operate. Check the certified ambient temperature range as well, since standard certification limits can be lower than Gulf summer temperatures. We provide the certificate copy issued by the manufacturer on request.
What is a balancing valve for and how is it selected?
A balancing valve adds an adjustable resistance to a branch so that each circuit receives its design flow, and its test points allow the flow to be measured from the pressure drop. Select it on the design flow, so that the valve works in the middle part of its setting range. Choosing simply by pipe size often leaves the valve almost closed and hard to set accurately.
