Fall Protection
Fall protection equipment keeps workers safe at height on structures, tanks, towers, scaffolds and rope-access sites. Each item must work as part of a tested system: anchor, connector, lanyard or fall arrester, and harness. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies Petzl work-at-height equipment to industrial, oil and gas, construction and telecom teams in Oman and the GCC.

Fall protection equipment keeps workers safe at height on structures, tanks, towers, scaffolds and rope-access sites. Types of equipment in this category
Full-body harnesses such as the Petzl NEWTON, AVAO and VOLT families combine fall arrest attachment points with work-positioning belts and comfortable leg loops for long shifts. Energy-absorbing lanyards like the ABSORBICA limit the force on the body when a fall is arrested, and double lanyards keep the worker attached while moving past anchors. Mobile fall arresters such as the ASAP slide on a rope and lock automatically if the user falls. Descenders including the I’D give controlled descent for rope access and rescue, and anchor slings and steel or aluminium carabiners complete the system.
How to select fall protection equipment
Start with a risk assessment: fall arrest, work positioning, restraint, rope access or rescue. Check the clearance below the worker, since an energy-absorbing lanyard needs several metres to deploy. Choose a harness with the attachment points and size range needed, and confirm compliance with EN 361, EN 358 or ANSI Z359 as the site requires. Check user weight limits, compatibility of connectors, and the inspection and retirement rules for textile items in hot, sunny climates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fall arrest stops a fall that has already started, using a sternal or dorsal attachment point and an energy absorber. Work positioning supports the worker in place, for example on a pole, using side waist rings, and must be combined with a fall arrest backup.
An energy-absorbing lanyard can need six metres or more below the anchor, including lanyard length, absorber deployment, body height and a safety margin. Where clearance is low, a self-retracting device or fall arrester may be needed.
Before every use by the user and periodically by a competent person, at least every 12 months. Heat, UV, chemicals and any fall arrest are reasons to remove it from service.
In Europe EN 361 for harnesses, EN 355 for energy absorbers, EN 353-2 for mobile fall arresters and EN 362 for connectors. Many US-based projects require ANSI Z359.
