Brand:

AUMA SQRV Variable-Speed Modulating Part-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

The AUMA SQRV adds a new dimension to the proven AUMA SQ/SQR range: variable operating time. Paired with ACV 01.2 actuator controls, the SQRV .2 part-turn actuator for modulating duty can be run at different speeds across the stroke, with AUMA describing an operating time range with a ratio of up to 1:10. For process engineers this removes a long-standing compromise. A fixed-speed actuator has to be sized for a single closing time that suits both normal control and emergency action, whereas the SQRV allows slow, gentle travel for regulation and faster travel when the process demands it. The part-turn actuators of the SQRV .2 range are rated for modulating duty, class C, at S4 – 25 %.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA SQRV to water authorities, power and desalination operators, and process industries in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. Variable speed is especially valuable on long pipelines and large-diameter butterfly valves in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah, where abrupt valve movement can trigger water hammer. Our team can help you evaluate whether the SQRV with ACV 01.2, or a fixed-speed SQR, is the more economical choice for each valve on your project.

Operating Principle

The AUMA SQRV keeps the familiar SQ .2 mechanical chain of motor, gear stage and splined output shaft, but the motor is driven by the ACV 01.2 controls, which regulate its speed electronically. The operating time for a 90 degree stroke can be set between 4 s and 360 s, and the stroke does not have to be run at one speed. An operating time profile allows the valve to approach its end positions slowly, travel quickly through the mid-range where flow change is small, or slow again where the valve has high control authority. This lets the actuator shape the flow change at the valve instead of simply opening or closing it.

Because the speed is a programmable parameter, the AUMA SQRV can also hold separate behaviour for normal operation and for emergency situations. Emergency behaviour and safety behaviour can be given their own specified operating times, and the response to loss of communication is programmable. A built-in process controller (PID) allows the actuator itself to regulate a process variable, soft start and soft stop reduce mechanical stress on gearing and valve, and operating data logging records how the valve has actually been used. The result is a smoother, quieter pipeline and a longer service life for the valve and its seals.

Engineering Design of the AUMA SQRV

Mechanically the AUMA SQRV follows the SQ .2 design: limit and torque sensing, mains connection in 1-phase and 3-phase versions, a handwheel for manual operation and a mechanical position indicator. The electrical connection uses the AUMA plug/socket connector with terminals as an option, cable entries are available in different versions and valve attachments are made according to DIN and ISO standards. Enclosure protection is IP68, corrosion protection is KS and the ambient temperature range extends from −30 °C to +70 °C.

The interface and functional properties come from the ACV 01.2 controls. They provide programmable potential-free output contacts for status signalling, fieldbus control, a Bluetooth interface to a notebook and Android tablet for commissioning and diagnostics, and operation data logging. Options on the actuator include intermediate position switches, switches in tandem version, a position transmitter and a magnetic limit and torque transmitter. The modulating torque range of 52 Nm to 840 Nm sits within an overall torque range of 150 Nm to 2,400 Nm, which keeps the SQRV firmly in the large butterfly, ball and plug valve segment.

Key Features

The AUMA SQRV is aimed at installations in which smooth, programmable valve movement is as important as torque. Its main features are listed below.

  • Operating time for 90 degrees adjustable between 4 s and 360 s, with a ratio of up to 1:10 across the speed range.
  • Operating time profile to avoid pressure surge in long or sensitive pipelines.
  • Soft start and soft stop for gentle valve operation and lower mechanical stress.
  • Separately specified operating times for EMERGENCY behaviour and safety behaviour.
  • Integral process controller (PID) for closed-loop regulation at the actuator.
  • Fieldbus control with programmable behaviour in case of emergency situations and communication loss.
  • Operation data logging and a Bluetooth interface to a notebook and Android tablet for commissioning.
  • Programmable potential-free output contacts for status signalling to the control room.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA SQRV is particularly effective where pipeline dynamics, not just valve torque, determine the actuator specification. Long transmission mains, pump station discharge valves and reservoir inlet valves benefit from an operating time profile that limits surge pressures, while district cooling headers and chilled water loops use the PID controller to hold flow or differential pressure without an external regulator. In power and desalination plants, the same variable speed supports fast action when a safety signal arrives and gentle regulation when the plant is running normally, without needing two different actuators.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA SQRV and the matching ACV 01.2 controls for projects across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, including the Sohar and Salalah economic zones and infrastructure works around Muscat. We can assemble the complete package of actuator, controls, fieldbus interface and mounting details so that engineering and procurement teams receive a single, consistent quotation. If the AUMA SQRV is not the closest fit for a valve, see the AUMA SQV variable-speed part-turn actuator, the AUMA SQRVEx or the AUMA SQR for alternatives from the same AUMA family.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main advantage of the AUMA SQRV over the AUMA SQR?
The SQRV has a variable operating time, from 4 s to 360 s for 90 degrees, with AUMA citing a speed ratio of up to 1:10, together with ACV 01.2 controls. The SQR runs at fixed speed within its 8 s to 100 s range. Variable speed lets you use gentle travel for control and faster travel for emergencies on the same actuator.
Does the AUMA SQRV help prevent water hammer?
Yes. An operating time profile can slow the stroke where closing causes pressure surge, and soft start and stop reduce mechanical shocks. This is useful on long pipelines and large butterfly valves where abrupt valve movement could cause transients.
What torque range does the AUMA SQRV cover?
The SQRV .2 range covers 150 Nm to 2,400 Nm, with a modulating torque range of 52 Nm to 840 Nm. It is intended for butterfly, ball and plug valves and carries IP68 enclosure protection and KS corrosion protection.
How is the AUMA SQRV integrated into a control system?
The ACV 01.2 controls offer fieldbus control with programmable behaviour for emergencies and communication loss, programmable potential-free output contacts, a PID process controller, operation data logging and a Bluetooth interface for commissioning from a notebook or Android tablet.
Is Seven Star LLC a trusted supplier for AUMA products?
