UPS types in this category

Three UPS designs appear in the product titles. Line-interactive units, such as the smaller tower models, pass conditioned mains power to the load and switch to the inverter when the supply leaves tolerance, with a short transfer time. Online double-conversion units rebuild the output continuously from the DC bus, so the load sees no transfer and is isolated from input voltage and frequency variation. Modular systems combine power modules and battery modules in one frame, which allows redundancy and later growth. Rack/tower convertible models suit control cabinets as well as server racks.

Batteries for UPS and control systems

Most small and mid-size UPS units use valve-regulated lead-acid blocks, and these wear out long before the electronics do. Battery life falls as room temperature rises, a real concern in the GCC. A replacement string should use blocks of the same voltage, capacity, terminal type and dimensions, and all blocks in a string should be changed together. DCS and controller battery packs are a different item. They are ordered strictly by the control system manufacturer’s part number.

How to specify a UPS for a quotation

State the load in VA and watts, the input and output voltage, single or three phase, the runtime required at that load, tower or rack format, and any network management card or external battery pack. For replacement batteries, send the UPS model or the markings on the existing blocks. We check the part number against the manufacturer documentation, propose the manufacturer’s successor when a model has been withdrawn, and provide the manufacturer’s datasheet on request.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Required power (kVA or kW)
  • Voltage and frequency
  • Backup time, for UPS and batteries
  • Engine or generator model and serial number, for spare parts
  • Site conditions (ambient temperature, indoor or outdoor)
  • Quantity

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the VA and watt ratings of a UPS?
VA is apparent power and watts is real power. A UPS has a limit for each, and the load must stay below both. Modern power supplies with power factor correction draw watts almost equal to VA, so the watt limit is usually reached first. Add up the real power of the connected equipment, compare it with the watt rating, and leave headroom for future additions.
When is an online double-conversion UPS needed instead of a line-interactive one?
Choose online double-conversion when the load cannot tolerate any transfer time, when the input supply has poor frequency stability, for example on a generator, or when the load is a control system, analyzer or server that justifies full isolation from the mains. Line-interactive units are suitable for workstations, network equipment and small loads on a reasonably stable supply.
Can I replace the batteries in a UPS with blocks from another manufacturer?
Electrically yes, if the blocks match in voltage, capacity, terminal type and dimensions, and are designed for high-rate discharge as UPS duty requires. Replace the whole string at the same time, since mixing old and new blocks shortens the life of the new ones. The simplest route for small units is the UPS manufacturer's own replacement battery cartridge, ordered by the UPS model number.
How can the runtime of an existing UPS be extended?
Only models designed for it accept external battery packs. On those, each added pack increases the runtime, up to a limit set by the manufacturer because the internal charger must still be able to recharge the bank in a reasonable time. Send us the UPS model and the load in watts and we will check the manufacturer's runtime tables for the pack quantity needed.
How are battery packs for Yokogawa or ABB control systems ordered?
By the manufacturer's part number printed on the pack or shown in the system hardware manual, together with the model of the module or power supply it fits. These packs are not generic. Connector, voltage and mechanical format are specific to the hardware. If the number has been superseded we check the manufacturer documentation and propose the current replacement part.
