Brand: AUMA
AUMA GP Planetary Gearbox (Multi-Turn)
Description
Overview
The AUMA GP is a range of coaxial planetary gearboxes for motor or manual operation of valves such as gate valves and globe valves. Unlike a bevel gearbox, the input and output shafts of the GP are in line, which keeps the installation compact and allows an actuator or handwheel to sit directly above the valve stem. The range includes the sizes GP 10.1, GP 14.1, GP 16.1, GP 25.1 and GP 30.1, with maximum valve torques from 100 Nm up to 2,500 Nm and EN ISO 5210 valve flanges from F10 to F30.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA GP to customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. Our team helps utilities and contractors in Oman select the right reduction ratio and actuator combination.
Working Principle of the AUMA GP
The AUMA GP uses planetary gearing: a central sun gear driven by the input shaft meshes with planet gears that run inside a fixed internal ring gear, and the planet carrier delivers the reduced output speed. Because the load is shared by several planet gears at once, a planetary stage transmits high torque in a very compact package while keeping input and output axes coaxial. Reduction ratios of 2.4:1, 3:1, 4:1, 8:1 and 16:1 are available depending on the size, with conversion factors from 2.2 to 14.4 for determining the required input torque.
In practice, this means a modest AUMA SA multi-turn actuator or a handwheel can operate a valve with a much higher torque demand. For instance, the AUMA GP 30.1 at 16:1 converts 2,500 Nm at the valve into roughly 174 Nm at the input, which a suitable SA .2 actuator can supply. Clockwise rotation at the input shaft gives clockwise rotation at the output, and the type of duty is short-time duty S2 – 15 min for open–close operation or intermittent duty S4 – 25 % for modulating operation.
Engineering Design of the AUMA GP
The housing of the AUMA GP is cast iron, and the input shaft has a metallic surface protection and a cylindrical form with parallel key to DIN 6885-1. The valve attachment is output type B3 according to EN ISO 5210 with a bore and keyway. Standard enclosure protection is IP68-8 (dust-tight and watertight up to 8 m head of water) with an IP68-20 option for 20 m. Standard corrosion protection is class KN, suitable for installations in industrial units, water plants and power plants with a low pollutant concentration, and the colour is AUMA silver-grey.
The standard ambient temperature range of −60 °C to +80 °C is exceptionally wide, with an option for 0 °C to +140 °C (up to +150 °C briefly at reduced lifetime). The ATEX version, marked II 2G Ex h IIC T4 Gb, is restricted to manual operation without motor operation, is rated for −30 °C to +70 °C, and has a documented lifetime of 500 cycles for GP 10.1 to GP 16.1 and 250 cycles for GP 25.1 to GP 30.1 according to EN ISO 22109. Gearbox weights run from about 6 kg to 75.5 kg. Motor operation is performed directly by an AUMA SA multi-turn actuator, for example SA 07.2, SA 10.2, SA 14.2, SA 14.6 or SA 16.2 depending on the GP size, via an input mounting flange. For manual operation, handwheels from 250 mm to 800 mm diameter according to EN 12570 are available.
Key Features
The AUMA GP offers a compact, in-line solution for torque multiplication:
- Coaxial planetary design keeps input and output on the same axis for compact, space-saving valve automation.
- Five sizes cover maximum valve torques of 100, 400, 700, 1,200 and 2,500 Nm.
- Reduction ratios from 2.4:1 to 16:1 let designers balance actuator size against operating time.
- Valve attachments to EN ISO 5210, flanges F10, F14, F16, F25 and F30, with a bore and keyway output.
- Very wide standard ambient temperature range of −60 °C to +80 °C and a high-temperature option up to +140 °C.
- IP68-8 enclosure as standard with an IP68-20 option for deeper submersion.
- Direct mounting of AUMA SA 07.2 to SA 16.2 multi-turn actuators or handwheels with ball handle.
- Lifetime meeting or exceeding the requirements of EN 15714-2 for multi-turn gearboxes.
Industrial Applications
The AUMA GP is a practical choice wherever a gate or globe valve needs more torque than the actuator alone can supply and there is no reason to offset the drive axis. Typical Omani applications include sluice and penstock valves in irrigation and wastewater treatment plants, pump discharge and isolation valves in desalination and potable water transmission around Muscat, and process isolation valves in power plants and industrial facilities at Sohar and Salalah. The wide temperature range suits both the high ambient temperatures of summer in the Omani interior and cold-service installations.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GP together with SA multi-turn actuators, handwheels and floor pedestals, enabling a single supplier to deliver the complete valve drive train for water utilities, contractors and industrial plants across Oman and the GCC. Related AUMA products worth comparing with the AUMA GP include the AUMA GK, the AUMA GST spur gearbox and the AUMA SA 07.2 multi-turn actuator, which cover neighbouring duty types and sizes.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
