Tube fittings, grooved pipe couplings and conduit fittings
Swagelok tube fittings are two-ferrule compression fittings that grip and seal on the outside of instrument tubing without threading or welding. They are a usual choice for impulse lines, analyzer sample lines and instrument air. The QC Series quick-connects allow a line to be coupled and uncoupled by hand, for example on portable equipment and sample cylinders. The Victaulic Style 107N is a rigid coupling for grooved-end pipe; grooved joints are common on fire protection, chilled water and utility piping because they are assembled with bolts instead of welding. The Cooper Crouse-Hinds items belong to rigid conduit systems: Condulet outlet bodies give pulling and access points, flexible couplings absorb movement and vibration at equipment connections, and EYS sealing fittings are filled with sealing compound to stop gases and flames passing along the conduit.
Hazardous-area rules for conduit sealing fittings
In classified areas the conduit system is part of the explosion protection. Fittings are marked for the Class, Division and gas Group under North American practice, or carry ATEX and IECEx marking for Zone systems, and the marking must match the area classification drawing. The sealing compound and fiber specified by the manufacturer have to be used with the fitting.
What to tell us when asking for fittings
For tube fittings: tube outside diameter, fractional or metric, the end connections and thread type, body material and the fitting shape. For conduit fittings: trade size, thread standard (NPT or metric), body material and the required hazardous-area marking. For grooved couplings: pipe size and standard, gasket material and the fluid. A manufacturer part number removes all doubt, and we check it against the manufacturer documentation for buyers across the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Manufacturers advise against it. Ferrules, nuts and bodies from different makers may look alike and even thread together, but their geometry, hardness and tolerances differ, so the pressure rating and leak tightness of the joint are no longer supported by any manufacturer's test data. Use complete fittings of one make, and replace like with like on existing lines.
Check the tube outside diameter. Fractional fittings suit inch sizes such as 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch; metric fittings suit 6, 10 and 12 mm tube and so on. Sizes that are close, for example 1/4 inch and 6 mm, are not interchangeable.
Under NEC rules for Class I locations, a seal is generally required in each conduit entering an explosion-proof enclosure that contains arcing or sparking devices, placed close to the enclosure, and in conduit leaving the classified area. The seal limits the passage of gas and stops an internal explosion travelling through the conduit. The project's electrical specification and area classification drawings give the exact locations.
Only where the fitting carries the right marking. Many conduit fittings are built for NEC Class and Division systems, and specific versions such as the EYS1/EZS1 listed here carry ATEX marking for Zone use. Check the protection type, gas group and thread form on the manufacturer's datasheet against your area classification before ordering. We can provide the datasheet and certificate on request.
A grooved coupling joins two pipe ends that have a groove rolled or cut near the end. A gasket seals on the pipe surface and a bolted housing engages both grooves. Rigid couplings lock the joint much like a flange or weld; flexible ones allow limited movement. Grooved systems are common on fire protection, HVAC and utility piping. Gasket material must suit the fluid and temperature.
