Miller Maxstar 400 DC TIG/Stick Welding Power Source Supplied by Seven Star LLC

TIG Welding Machines

TIG welding machines (GTAW) strike an arc from a non-consumable tungsten electrode, with filler added separately, and give the cleanest and most controllable arc of the manual processes. Seven Star LLC supplies TIG welders in Oman from Miller, Kemppi, Migatronic and OTC Daihen. The listing includes DC machines for steel, stainless and nickel alloys, and AC/DC machines that also weld aluminum. Several of them double as stick welding power sources.

DC and AC/DC TIG welding machines

DC TIG with the electrode negative is used for carbon steel, stainless, duplex, nickel alloys, copper and titanium. It is the standard process for root passes on process piping and for thin-wall tube. Aluminum and magnesium need alternating current, because the electrode-positive half cycle breaks up the surface oxide while the negative half cycle provides penetration. AC/DC machines let the welder adjust the balance between cleaning and penetration, and usually the AC frequency as well, to narrow or widen the arc.

Features worth comparing on a TIG welder

Look at the minimum stable current for thin material and the maximum current at the duty cycle you need. High-frequency starting ignites the arc without touching the work. Lift starting avoids high-frequency interference and is preferred near sensitive electronics and instrumentation. Pulse reduces heat input and helps positional welding. Slope-up, slope-down and post-flow gas settings protect the weld start, the crater and the tungsten. Above a certain current, a water-cooled torch and cooler are more comfortable for continuous work.

What to send for a TIG machine quotation

Tell us the materials and thickness range, whether aluminum is included, the current and duty cycle required, the site supply, and the torch type, length and cooling. Mention remote controls such as a foot pedal. For projects elsewhere in the GCC, give the destination and any client specification.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Welding process (MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA, SAW, plasma)
  • Current range and duty cycle
  • Supply voltage and phases
  • Material and thickness to be welded
  • Accessories needed (torch, wire feeder, cooler)

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an AC/DC TIG machine or is DC enough?
If you only weld carbon steel, stainless, duplex, nickel alloys or titanium, a DC machine covers the work and costs less. An AC/DC machine is needed as soon as aluminum or magnesium is part of the job, because alternating current is what removes the oxide skin. Workshops with mixed repair work normally choose AC/DC for that flexibility.
What is the difference between high-frequency start and lift start?
High-frequency start jumps the gap with a high-voltage spark, so the tungsten never touches the work and cannot contaminate it. Lift start touches the tungsten to the work at very low current and establishes the arc as it is lifted. Lift start is used where high-frequency noise could disturb control systems, instruments or computers nearby.
When is a water-cooled TIG torch necessary?
Air-cooled torches are fine for low currents and short welds. For long welds at higher current, an air-cooled torch gets hot and heavy, so a water-cooled torch with a cooler is used. It is smaller in the hand for the same rating. Check the torch rating at 100 percent duty cycle against your working current, especially in high ambient temperatures.
Can a TIG machine also be used for stick welding?
Most TIG power sources are constant-current machines and include a stick mode, and several models in this category are sold as TIG and stick units. That is practical on site, where the root is welded with TIG and the fill and cap with electrodes. Check the stick current range and whether the model suits the electrode types you use.
What should I include when asking for a TIG welder quotation?
Materials and thickness range, AC/DC or DC only, the current and duty cycle needed, and the supply voltage and phase. Add the torch model or size, length, air or water cooling, and say if you want a foot pedal, torch-mounted control, cooler and trolley. For a replacement, send the old machine model so torch connectors can be compared.
