Schneider Electric LC1D TeSys D Contactor Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Contactors & Overload Relays

Contactors switch motor and power circuits through an electrically operated control coil. Overload relays monitor motor current and form part of the motor-protection arrangement. Select a contactor by utilisation category, operating voltage, current or motor power, coil supply and auxiliary contacts. Select an overload relay by its adjustment range, motor nameplate current and compatibility with the starter. These ratings serve different purposes and should be checked together when specifying a complete motor-control assembly. Browse model-specific technical information and send the required quantities and installed equipment details with your quotation enquiry to Seven Star LLC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AC-1 and AC-3 ratings on a contactor?
AC-1 covers non-inductive or slightly inductive loads such as resistive heaters. AC-3 covers starting squirrel-cage motors and switching them off while running. The same contactor carries a higher current in AC-1 than in AC-3, so a motor starter must be selected on the AC-3 value.
How do I select the coil voltage?
Match the coil code to the control supply of the panel, both the voltage and whether it is AC or DC. Contactors of the same frame are made with many coil codes, and the coil code is part of the order reference.
How is a thermal overload relay sized?
Choose a relay whose adjustment range includes the motor nameplate full-load current, then set the dial to that current. The relay must also be mechanically compatible with the contactor it mounts on.
Does an overload relay protect against short circuits?
No. An overload relay responds to sustained overcurrent. Short-circuit protection is provided separately by fuses or a circuit breaker coordinated with the starter.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send the full order code from the nameplate, quantity, motor voltage and current, control supply voltage and the auxiliary contacts required. A photo of the installed device helps identify a replacement.
