Choosing the correct consumable for a liquid analyzer
A reagent only works in the method and analyzer it was formulated for. The same parameter is often measured by several methods with different ranges, and each method has its own reagent set, so the analyzer model and the method or range must be stated. Reagents and buffers carry an expiry date, and it makes sense to order quantities that will be used before that date. Many are classified as chemicals for transport, and the manufacturer publishes a safety data sheet for each of them.

Order by the reagent's catalog number from the analyzer manual or from the label of the bottle you are using now, and tell us the analyzer model and measuring range. Reagent sets are tied to one method, and the same parameter can have different sets for low and high ranges. We check the number against the manufacturer documentation before offering.
Do reagents and buffer solutions expire?
Yes. Every reagent, standard and buffer has a limited shelf life printed on the label, and opened bottles last a shorter time than sealed ones. pH buffers absorb carbon dioxide from the air once opened, which shifts alkaline buffers in particular. Plan order quantities around your real consumption so the material is used within its date, and store it as the label instructs.
What do I need to specify for a hollow cathode lamp?
State the element to be measured, single-element or multi-element type, and the make and model of your atomic absorption spectrometer. Lamps come in different diameters and with different base connectors, and some spectrometers read a code on the lamp to identify the element automatically. A lamp that suits one instrument maker's turret does not necessarily fit another.
The part number for my TOC analyzer spare has changed. Is the new part the same?
Manufacturers renumber parts when they reorganize their catalog or revise a component. In many cases the new number is the same item, in others it is an updated design that replaces the old one. Send the old number with the analyzer model and serial number. We check the cross-reference in the manufacturer documentation and state on the offer which number replaces which.
Which documents are available for reagents and standards?
Manufacturers publish a safety data sheet for each chemical product, and many issue a certificate of analysis for the specific lot, which is what a laboratory quality system usually asks for with buffers and standards.
