Gedik GKF-50 Electrode Drying Oven with Digital Thermostat (50 Packages) Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Electrode Drying Ovens

Electrode drying ovens re-dry and hold covered welding electrodes at a controlled temperature, so low-hydrogen types reach the arc with a dry coating. Seven Star LLC lists four electrode ovens from Gedik Welding for buyers in Oman, from a portable one-pack oven that the welder takes to the joint to workshop ovens holding twenty or fifty packs. The range is growing, and other capacities can be sourced on request.

Drying ovens, holding ovens and portable quivers

Three jobs are involved. A drying or baking oven reaches the high temperature needed to drive absorbed moisture out of electrodes that have been exposed. A holding oven keeps dried electrodes warm at a lower temperature until they are issued. A portable oven, or quiver, keeps a small quantity warm at the workplace, so electrodes are not lying in open air during the shift. One large oven with a wide thermostat range can cover the first two tasks if it is run to a schedule. Basic low-hydrogen electrodes such as E7018 need this care. Cellulosic electrodes must never be put in an oven.

What to send for an electrode oven quotation

Tell us the electrode types and the re-drying and holding temperatures from the manufacturer or your procedure, how many packs per shift pass through the oven, the electrode length, and the supply voltage. Humid coastal sites in the GCC usually need both a store oven and quivers for each welder.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Machine or torch model it must fit

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between re-drying and holding electrodes?
Re-drying, also called baking, is a short treatment at high temperature that removes moisture already absorbed by the coating. Holding keeps electrodes that are already dry at a moderate temperature so they do not pick moisture up again. The two temperatures differ considerably, and both are given by the electrode manufacturer, usually on the packet and in the datasheet.
Which electrodes need an oven and which must not go in one?
Basic low-hydrogen electrodes, including E7018 types, low-alloy chrome-moly grades and most stainless electrodes, benefit from controlled storage and re-drying. Cellulosic electrodes such as E6010 need moisture in the coating and are damaged by baking. Rutile electrodes such as E6013 are normally just kept dry. Always follow the storage instructions for the specific product.
How many times can low-hydrogen electrodes be re-baked?
Manufacturers limit the number of re-drying cycles, because repeated baking makes the coating brittle and can change the way it behaves. The permitted number and the maximum total time are stated in the product documentation, and many project specifications set their own limit. Electrodes that have become wet, or have damaged coating, should be scrapped.
Can an electrode oven be used to dry submerged arc flux?
Only if it reaches the re-drying temperature the flux manufacturer specifies and the flux can be spread in shallow trays so heat penetrates the whole layer. Electrode ovens with pack-sized compartments are often unsuitable for this. Purpose-made flux ovens exist for larger quantities. Send the flux type and quantity and we will check what fits.
What information do you need to quote an electrode oven?
The electrode classifications, the re-drying and holding temperatures required, the quantity handled per shift in packs or kilograms, and the longest electrode length. Add the supply voltage, whether the oven is for a store, a workshop or to be carried to the joint, and whether a thermometer or digital thermostat is required by your quality plan.
