Both are bearing housings with a base for bolting to a support. Pillow blocks usually hold a complete insert bearing unit, while plummer blocks are larger split or solid housings that take a separate spherical roller or ball bearing.

When should I choose a split housing?
Split housings can be opened without removing the shaft ends or the bearing, which shortens downtime on long shafts and heavy machines.
Can housed bearings take misalignment?
