Temperature Instrumentation

RTD & Thermocouple Sensors

RTD and thermocouple sensors measure temperature in pipes, vessels, machines and HVAC systems, usually installed in a thermowell and connected to a transmitter or controller. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies temperature sensors and thermowells from JUMO, WIKA, ABB, Endress+Hauser, Danfoss, Turck, Omega, Rosemount and Siemens to customers in Oman and the GCC.

Types of temperature sensor in this category

Screw-in and push-in RTD probes such as the JUMO 902030, 902050 and 902190, WIKA TR10, Endress+Hauser iTHERM TM101 and Omega PR-11 cover machinery and process applications. Thermocouples like the JUMO 901030 and WIKA TC10-B handle high temperatures. Mineral-insulated, surface and pipe-clamp probes, marine and railway sensors, sensors with integrated transmitters such as the Turck TS700, and screw-in, weld-in and smart thermowells (JUMO 909710, dicoTEMP 100, ABB SensyTemp TSP300) complete the range.

How to select a temperature sensor

Choose RTD (Pt100, Pt1000) for accuracy up to about 600 °C and thermocouples (type K, J, N, S) for higher temperatures or fast response. Define the temperature range, insertion length, sheath diameter and material, process connection and connection head or cable. Specify accuracy class (for example class A or AA), number of wires and whether a thermowell is required.

Data needed for a quotation

Send the sensor model, or element type, range, insertion length, diameter, connection, head or cable, thermowell and quantity.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Sensor type (RTD, thermocouple) or transmitter model
  • Temperature range
  • Insertion length, diameter and thermowell
  • Process connection
  • Output signal (4-20 mA, HART, fieldbus)
  • Hazardous-area approval, if required

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an RTD and a thermocouple?
An RTD changes resistance with temperature and is more accurate and stable. A thermocouple generates a voltage, covers higher temperatures and responds faster.
What does Pt100 class A mean?
A platinum sensor with 100 ohms at 0 °C and a tolerance defined by IEC 60751 class A, tighter than class B.
Why use a thermowell?
It protects the sensor from pressure, flow and corrosion and allows the sensor to be replaced without opening the process.
2-wire, 3-wire or 4-wire RTD?
3-wire compensates for lead resistance in most applications. 4-wire gives the best accuracy, 2-wire only suits short leads.
What should I send for a quotation?
The model, or element type, range, insertion length, diameter, connection, head, thermowell and quantity.
