Lincoln Electric UltraCore 71A85 Gas-Shielded Flux-Cored Welding Wire Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Flux-Cored Welding Wire

Flux-cored welding wire is a tubular wire whose flux fill forms slag and stabilizes the arc, giving higher deposition than solid wire in positional welding. Seven Star LLC lists four flux-cored wires (FCAW) for buyers in Oman: a rutile carbon steel wire from Kobelco, a gas-shielded carbon steel wire from Lincoln Electric, and chrome-moly B3 wires from Hyundai Welding and Ador Welding. The range is growing, and other classifications can be sourced on request.

Gas-shielded rutile and chrome-moly flux-cored wires

Rutile gas-shielded wires of the E71T-1 type are the workhorse of structural steel, shipbuilding and tank fabrication, because their fast-freezing slag supports the pool in vertical-up and overhead positions. Carbon steel wires are classified under AWS A5.20 or the newer A5.36. Low-alloy wires fall under AWS A5.29. The B3 types listed here deposit 2.25Cr-1Mo weld metal for boiler, heater and high-temperature piping work, and are used with the preheat and post-weld heat treatment set by the procedure.

What to specify when asking for flux-cored wire

State the full AWS classification including the gas designator, C for CO2 or M for mixed gas, since many wires are classified with one gas only. Add the diameter, spool weight, quantity, any impact test temperature or diffusible hydrogen limit, and the certificate type. For GCC project work, tell us if a 3.1 certificate per lot is mandatory, and we will confirm what the manufacturer issues before quoting.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • AWS or EN classification
  • Diameter
  • Base material to be welded
  • Packaging (spool, drum, kg) and quantity
  • Approvals or certificates required

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wire?
Gas-shielded wire relies on external CO2 or argon-CO2 gas plus its slag, and gives the cleaner weld and better toughness that most structural and pressure work requires. Self-shielded wire generates its own protection from the core, so it tolerates wind on open sites, but it produces more fume and has its own technique and property limits. The wires listed here are gas-shielded types.
Can I run flux-cored wire on my existing MIG machine?
Usually yes, if the power source has constant-voltage output with enough current and duty cycle for the wire diameter. Fit knurled drive rolls made for tubular wire so the sheath is not crushed, check the polarity given on the wire datasheet, and use a gun rated for the higher current. Fume extraction needs more attention than with solid wire.
Why does the C or M at the end of a classification such as E71T-1C or E71T-1M matter?
It identifies the shielding gas used when the wire was classified: C for 100 percent CO2, M for an argon-CO2 mixture. Weld metal strength and toughness change with the gas because alloy recovery changes. A wire classified only with CO2 should not be run on mixed gas, or the reverse, unless the manufacturer datasheet and your procedure allow it.
Do flux-cored wires need special storage?
Yes. The flux fill can absorb moisture, which raises weld hydrogen and causes porosity or worm tracks. Keep spools in their sealed packaging until use, store them in a dry room, and take part-used spools off the feeder and bag them at the end of the shift. Follow the maker's instructions if a spool has been exposed for long.
Can you source flux-cored wire grades that are not listed, and what do you need?
Yes, other carbon steel, low-alloy and stainless flux-cored wires can be sourced on request. Send the AWS or EN ISO classification with gas designator, diameter, spool weight and quantity, the base metal and welding position, and the certificate type. If a specific trade name is written into your procedure, give that name so we quote the same product.
