The ADAM-6017 is an 8-channel analog input module from the ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O family. It brings voltage and current signals onto a network and is read by SCADA or PLC software over Modbus TCP. The ADAM-4520 belongs to the ADAM-4000 serial family and converts RS-232 to isolated RS-422 or RS-485, a common fix for linking a PC or panel to field devices. The IPC-623 is a 4U, 20-slot rackmount chassis that houses a backplane, CPU card and expansion cards for control room computers.
Ordering Advantech hardware: what we need
Send the full part number with its suffix. Advantech adds letters after the model, as in ADAM-6017-D, to mark the hardware revision, and existing configurations sometimes depend on it. For an IPC chassis, state the backplane, power supply and drive bay arrangement, since these are ordered as specific versions. What do the letters after an Advantech ADAM model number mean?
They identify the hardware revision of the module. An ADAM-6017 or ADAM-4520 can be on the label with a suffix of one or two letters, and newer revisions may differ in firmware, utility software version or minor features. Send the complete number from the side label. If the revision you have is no longer produced, we check Advantech's documentation for the current one.
How does an ADAM-6017 connect to a SCADA or PLC system?
The module has an Ethernet port and acts as a Modbus TCP server, so any SCADA package or PLC with a Modbus TCP client can poll its analog input values. Channel ranges and network settings are set with Advantech's configuration utility. In your request, mention the signal types (voltage or current) and how many channels you need, in case another ADAM-6000 model fits better.
What must I specify when ordering an Advantech IPC-623 chassis?
A rackmount chassis is sold in versions that differ by backplane, power supply and front drive bays. Give the full part number of the existing chassis, or the slot count and bus types of your cards, the CPU card model and the supply voltage. A photo of the rear label helps.

Do I need a separate power supply for ADAM modules?
Yes. ADAM-4000 and ADAM-6000 modules run from an unregulated DC supply connected at their screw terminals, typically the 24 V DC available in a control panel, and they are DIN-rail or panel mounted. The power supply is not part of the module. Check the supply range and consumption in the data sheet for the exact model before sizing the panel supply.
