Optrel panoramaxx 2.5 Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Welding Helmets & Face Protection

Welding helmets and face protection shield the welder’s eyes and face from arc radiation, spatter and grinding sparks. Seven Star LLC supplies auto-darkening welding helmets in Oman from Miller, Optrel and 3M. Every model currently listed uses an auto-darkening filter, which stays light enough to see the joint before the arc is struck and switches to the welding shade within a fraction of a second, so the welder does not have to nod the helmet down.

What to compare on an auto-darkening welding helmet

The shade range comes first. It must cover the processes and currents in use, and low-current TIG needs a filter whose sensors react reliably to a small, steady arc. The number of arc sensors matters when the view of the arc can be blocked, as in pipe welding. Sensitivity and delay controls let the welder adapt the filter to pulsed arcs and to bright surroundings, including outdoor work in strong sun. A grind mode holds the filter in its light state. Optical class, viewing area, color rendering in the light state, weight and headgear adjustment decide how comfortable the helmet is over a full shift.

Standards and respiratory protection

Auto-darkening filters are tested to EN 379 and helmet shells to EN 175 in Europe, while North American specifications refer to ANSI Z87.1. Project and contractor PPE requirements in the GCC normally cite one of these, so check which applies before ordering. A helmet alone does not protect against welding fume. Where fume control is required, some helmet models can be combined with a powered air respirator from the same manufacturer, which has to be specified as a matched system.

What to send for a welding helmet quotation

List the welding processes and current range, whether grinding and cutting are done with the same helmet, any hard hat or respirator the helmet must work with, the standard your site requires and the quantity. Add spare cover lenses and sweatbands if you want them in the same order.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Machine or torch model it must fit
  • Part reference
  • Size or rating

Frequently Asked Questions

Which shade number do I need for my welding process?
The shade depends on process and current. Higher current and more open arcs need darker shades, and low-current TIG needs lighter ones. Filter manufacturers and the eye protection standards publish tables that give the recommended shade for each process and current range. Choose a helmet whose variable range covers all your work, then set the shade from the table.
Are auto-darkening helmets safe if the filter fails to switch?
The filter blocks ultraviolet and infrared radiation at all times, in both the light and the dark state, because that protection comes from a passive coating and not from the switching. If the filter does not darken, the welder is dazzled by visible light but is still protected from UV and IR. A filter that switches unreliably should still be replaced.
What do the four numbers of the optical class mean?
Under EN 379 the filter is rated in four areas: optical quality, light diffusion, uniformity of shade across the filter, and how the shade changes with viewing angle. Each is graded from 1, the best, to 3. A filter marked 1/1/1/1 gives the clearest, most even view, which reduces eye strain over long welding shifts.
Can I grind with a welding helmet?
Only if the helmet has a grind mode and its shell and lens are rated for impact at the level your site requires. Grind mode locks the filter in the light state so sparks do not trigger it. Some helmets have a separate clear grinding visor under a flip-up welding filter. Check the impact rating in the datasheet.
What details should a helmet inquiry include?
The processes and current range, indoor or outdoor work, whether a grind mode or flip-up visor is needed, and the PPE standard your site specifies. Tell us if the helmet must fit a hard hat or connect to a powered air respirator, and how many units you need. Add spare parts such as cover lenses, headgear and batteries.
