Overview

The Meinberg LANTIME M320/GPS/AD10 NTP Time Server is a network time server in a 1U case for server rackmount installations. It is used to provide highly accurate time to networks of all sizes, synchronising every system that is either NTP or SNTP compatible. As a reference time source, the M320 typically uses a built-in Meinberg reference clock, and the M320/GPS variant is delivered with an integrated GPS radio clock so the server can operate in stratum 1 mode. The M320/GPS/AD10 package includes the GPSANT HF2020 GPS antenna and converter unit, a 20 m RG58 antenna cable with N and BNC plugs, a power cord and an accessory set.

Engineering Design

The LANTIME M320 is built around a Meinberg reference clock and a dedicated NTP server engine. With the integrated GPS receiver, the server obtains time directly from GPS satellites and distributes it to the network over NTP, SNTP and the modern NTS (Network Time Security) protocol. Up to 7 external NTP servers can also be set as time reference, in which case the unit operates as a stratum 2 server. Local configuration is handled through the backlit LCD panel and function keys, while the web interface offers full control over every facet of the server, including HTTPS encryption and a REST API with TLS certificate management. The USB port supports firmware updates and backup and restore of configuration and log files, and the unit logs events through syslog, SNMP and SMTP.

Compatibility & Integration

The M320 synchronises all systems that are NTP or SNTP compatible, which covers servers, network equipment, industrial controllers and SCADA systems across the plant or the enterprise. With the GPS receiver fitted, the server acts as its own stratum 1 reference, so no external time source is required on site; alternatively, up to 7 external NTP servers can be configured as reference when the installation is operated as a stratum 2 server behind an existing time infrastructure.

Deployment is straightforward in any standard 19-inch rack: the 1U server mounts in a single rack unit, and the GPSANT HF2020 antenna and converter unit is positioned where it has a clear view of the sky, connected by the included 20 m RG58 cable with N and BNC plugs. The accessory set covers the remaining mounting items, so the package can be commissioned with standard rack and antenna hardware.
