ABB ACS-AP-W Bluetooth Assistant Control Panel

Description

A wireless control panel for ABB drives

The ACS-AP-W is ABB’s Assistant control panel with a Bluetooth interface, giving a wireless way to reach the drive while keeping the RJ-45 and USB connections of the other ACS-AP panels. ABB states that its functions are the same as those of the ACS-AP-I and ACS-AP-S panels, and that it adds a more powerful embedded processor and memory for faster communication. The manual lists it for ACS380, ACS480, ACS530, ACS560, ACS580, ACQ580, ACS860 and ACS880 drives.

Bluetooth operation and approvals

The LED colours tell the state at a glance: green normal, blinking green warning, red fault, blinking red restart required. The panel can keep backups from different drives and upload them to another drive, useful for commissioning series machines. Under Assistants or System info the panel creates a QR code holding drive information to pass to a service engineer. Operators see a monochrome graphic LCD (240 x 160 pixels, FSTN) whose backlight and contrast are set with the help key and the arrow keys.

Mounting, cabling and environment

The panel snaps into the drive’s panel slot bottom edge first; a clip at the top holds it and also releases it. Wired connection uses the RJ-45 female connector, good for 100 m of cable. Protection equals that of the host drive when attached, while detached use is IP20. The panel runs between -20 and +55 degrees C, tolerates 95% non-condensing humidity and may be used up to 4000 m above sea level. Note the restriction printed in ABB’s manual: the wireless panel must not be used within a 20 km radius of the centre of Ny-Alesund on Svalbard, Norway. Bluetooth use may also need local approval, so check the rules for your site. ABB lists the radio as a Bluetooth Qualified Design with an internal inverted-F antenna on the circuit board, so no external antenna is needed, and a flickering blue LED shows data moving over the wireless link while a blinking blue LED shows it is ready for pairing.

Datasheet and quotation

The facts above come from ABB’s assistant control panels user’s manual 3AUA0000085685, linked here, and from ABB’s product page for the ACS-AP-W. Seven Star LLC quotes the ACS-AP-W from Muscat once it knows which drive the panel will serve. Please verify panel compatibility with your drive and firmware, and tell us if a mounting platform or cable should be quoted with it. Other accessories are listed in Automation Accessories, and the ABB ACS580 drive is one of the drives that uses this panel.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB company profile

Formed 5 January 1988, by the merger of ASEA (Sweden) and BBC Brown Boveri (Switzerland), each holding 50%
ASEA Founded 1883 in Västerås, Sweden, by Ludvig Fredholm; first products electric lighting and generators
Brown, Boveri & Cie Founded 1891 in Baden, Switzerland, by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need

Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.

Facts checked against ABB company filings and published histories of ASEA and Brown, Boveri & Cie, October 2026.
