ABB SACE Tmax XT Moulded Case Circuit Breakers

Description

Overview

The ABB SACE Tmax XT is ABB’s family of low voltage moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) for outgoing feeders, motor feeders, generator circuits and smaller incomers from 160 A up to 1600 A. Seven frame sizes, XT1 to XT7, share the same logic, accessories and trip unit platform as the Emax 2 air circuit breakers, so ABB presents the range as the first to remove the traditional gap between moulded case and air circuit breakers. Breaking capacities reach 200 kA at 415 V on the top performance levels, and the electronic trip units bring precise metering and connectivity into a compact frame.

Seven Star LLC supplies the ABB SACE Tmax XT to switchboard builders, MEP contractors, oil and gas operators and facility owners in the Sultanate of Oman and throughout the GCC. Our Muscat team helps you choose the frame, performance level, trip unit and terminals for each feeder on the schedule, and we handle replacement and extension orders for existing panels as well as new projects.

How the ABB SACE Tmax XT Works

A moulded case breaker combines the current path, arc chambers, operating mechanism and trip unit in a single insulating housing. In the ABB SACE Tmax XT, the trip unit senses current in each pole and releases the mechanism on overload or short circuit, and the contacts open inside the arc chambers. Depending on the frame, the catalogue lists thermomagnetic releases (TMD, TMA, TMF), magnetic-only releases for motor starters (MF, MA), TMG releases for generators and the Ekip family of electronic trip units in Dip, Touch and Hi-Touch versions. The operating lever always shows the true contact position, including a distinct tripped position, in line with IEC 60073 and IEC 60417-2.

Electronic Ekip units on the ABB SACE Tmax XT measure electrical quantities with certified 1% accuracy, so the breaker itself can serve as a metering point. Bluetooth and the Ekip Connect software simplify setting and commissioning from a laptop or phone, communication modules give remote access over common protocols, and the Ekip Com Hub links to ABB Ability Energy and Asset Manager. ABB states that new protection, metering and automation functions, more than 50 in total, can be downloaded from ABB Ability Marketplace, and that the embedded smart power controller can help cut energy consumption by up to 20 percent.

Engineering Design of the ABB SACE Tmax XT

All frames are rated 690 V AC with an impulse withstand of 8 kV. XT1 and XT3 have an insulation voltage of 800 V, while XT2, XT4, XT5, XT6 and XT7 are rated 1000 V. XT1 and XT3 come in fixed and plug-in versions, XT2, XT4 and XT5 add withdrawable versions, and XT6 and XT7 are fixed or withdrawable; three-pole and four-pole breakers exist across the range. Frames XT1 to XT4 can also be mounted on DIN rail to DIN EN 50022, which suits smaller distribution boards.

The construction uses double insulation between live parts and the front where operators work, segregated seats for each electrical accessory and oversized insulation distances that ABB states also comply with UL 489. Tropicalisation testing to IEC 60068-2-30 at 55 °C confirms suitability for humid climates. Physical sizes stay compact: an XT1 three-pole fixed breaker measures 76.2 x 70 x 130 mm, an XT4 measures 105 x 82.5 x 160 mm, and the 1600 A XT7 three-pole fixed breaker measures 210 x 166 x 268 mm.

Industrial Applications

Typical uses of the ABB SACE Tmax XT in Oman include outgoing feeders on 415 V main switchboards and sub-main distribution boards in hospitals, malls, residential towers and government buildings, motor feeders for pumps and compressors in motor control centres, and generator protection on standby and prime power sets. On water and wastewater sites, ABB SACE Tmax XT breakers commonly feed variable speed drives and pump panels, while solar farms and battery systems can use DC-rated versions covered in the same catalogue.

Oil and gas facilities, refineries and petrochemical plants in Sohar and Duqm often require the higher performance levels, such as XT4L or XT5V, where switchboards sit close to large transformers and fault levels exceed 100 kA. Seven Star LLC supplies the ABB SACE Tmax XT with engineering support in Muscat, including terminals, rotary handles, shunt trips, auxiliary contacts and motor operators so complete feeder kits can be quoted together.

About brand
ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.

Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
