ABB CR-M230AC2 Interface Relay 230 V AC 2 c/o 12 A
Description
CR-M230AC2: mains-coil interface relay with two 12 A changeover contacts
CR-M230AC2 is the 230 V AC-coil version of the two-contact CR-M relay. Its output is two changeover (SPDT) contacts rated 12 A at 250 V, and it has no LED. It is used where a 230 V control signal, for example from a thermostat or a pilot switch, must switch another circuit with electrical separation.
The relay mounts on a CR-M socket and is 27 mm wide on the socket. The test button for this AC version is orange, which shows at a glance that the coil is an AC type.

Coil details for the AC version
The coil is rated 1.6 VA at 50/60 Hz, with a resistance of 16,100 ohm. It pulls in at 184 V AC at 20 C and tolerates 253 V AC at 55 C, and drop-out is at 20 percent of the rated voltage or more. Typical pick-up time is 10 ms and release is 8 ms, slower than the DC type on release.
The AC coil version is rated for ambient temperatures of -40 to +55 C, lower than the +70 C allowed for DC coils. In a hot cabinet this difference is worth checking against the real temperature.
Protecting contacts and coil
For a 230 V AC coil ABB lists the CR-P/M 82 varistor module (1SVR405656R2000) for overvoltage protection and the CR-P/M 52C RC element (1SVR405653R1000, 110 to 230 V AC) for arc suppression. These plug into the socket together with the relay.
The contacts follow the same table as the DC version: 12 A resistive, 1.5 A inductive at 230 V AC (AC15). If the load is a contactor coil or small motor, check the inductive rating and not only the thermal current.
Documents and quotation

About brand
ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.
Where ABB products are used
In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need
Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
