Rosemount 2405 Monitoring Hub for Tank Inventory

Description

Rosemount 2405 Monitoring Hub: field display and HART hub for tank inventory

The Rosemount 2405 Monitoring Hub combines three jobs in one polymer housing: it is the data concentrator for the level, temperature and pressure transmitters on a small tank group, the local display that operators read in the field, and the communication unit that passes the values to a host. Up to eight HART transmitters share its multidrop sensor inputs, and the results are shown as level, volume, volume utilisation and rate of change.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Rosemount 2405 Monitoring Hub in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. It is a configurable product, so the full model code matters when you order.

How the Rosemount 2405 turns transmitter signals into inventory

The 2405 powers and polls the loop-powered HART transmitters on its two sensor inputs, reads the HART primary and secondary variables, and calculates inventory values with the strapping and unit settings entered during set-up. Output units cover level in metres, feet and inches, volume in cubic metres, litres, cubic feet, barrels and gallons, volume utilisation in percent, level rate and flow rate, pressure in several absolute and gauge units, and temperature in °C or °F.

The supported transmitter list in the datasheet includes the Rosemount 1208C, 3408, 5408, 5300 and 3100 level transmitters, the 2051 and 3051 pressure transmitters, and the 3144, 644 and 248 temperature transmitters. Generic support is also given for level, temperature and pressure HART transmitters from other makers, which helps when a tank group already has mixed instruments.

Values can be viewed locally on the colour screen or remotely in a web server, and logged data can be downloaded through the same web interface. Step-by-step configuration wizards reduce commissioning effort, and alarm handling is designed to help operators decide quickly.

Rosemount 2405 compared with related tank gauging parts

The 2405 is aimed at chemical storage, water treatment chemicals, food and beverage, metals and mining and other smaller tank groups. For large terminals with many tanks, the Rosemount 2460 System Hub is the data concentrator used with 2410 tank hubs and radar gauges. For water and wastewater pump stations and open channel work, the Rosemount 3490 Controller offers a similar display and HART inputs with pump control wizards. Marine cargo gauges such as the TGU 53, TGU 65 and TGU 68 belong to a different system altogether.

Part Main role Typical use
Rosemount 2405 Up to 8 HART devices, inventory display and Modbus TCP hub Small and medium tank groups
Rosemount 3490 1 or 2 sensor inputs, up to 6 relays, pump control wizards Pump stations, open channel, tank volume
Rosemount 2460 Up to 64 tanks, eight configurable ports, redundancy Large tank farms and terminals

Selection checklist for the Rosemount 2405

  • Count transmitters per tank. Every tank needs a level sensor, and the hub supports up to eight HART devices in total.
  • Confirm each transmitter is HART loop-powered and decide how addresses will be assigned in multidrop mode.
  • Choose the hazardous location code that matches your area classification. Intrinsic safety codes cover ATEX, IECEx, US and Canada, Japan, Korea and India.
  • Select the glands that fit your cabling: three M20, seven M20 with an RJ45 gland, or NPT adapters.
  • Choose integrated mounting or the wall and pipe kit, and add the weather protection cover when the display will be read in sun or rain.
  • Check the host: Modbus TCP into TankMaster, TankMaster Mobile, or a third-party system.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the Rosemount 2405

Mount the hub on a wall or pipe with the stainless steel kit, use the stainless steel support plate with M20 threads for glands, and use spring-loaded terminals for the field wiring. The enclosure has seven M20 entries, and unused entries must be closed with plugs to hold the IP66/IP67 rating. Use the maximum loop resistance values in the datasheet when planning HART cable lengths: for example 2200 Ω at 3.75 mA and 66 Ω at 22.5 mA.

After power-up, which takes about thirty seconds, run the wizard to define tanks and map each transmitter. Check relays and analog outputs against the control system, set the signal on alarm to the required NAMUR level, and download a log file to confirm that data recording works. New devices ship with a QR asset tag, which gives access to drawings and documents tied to the serial number. Keep a spare fuse and a record of the model code for replacement.

Typical applications of the Rosemount 2405 in Oman and the GCC

In the region the 2405 is a good fit for chemical dosing and storage tanks at desalination and water treatment plants, such as chlorine and antiscalant storage where level and temperature must be visible both in the field and in the control room. It also serves day tanks and bunded chemical stores at petrochemical, power and industrial sites. The 0 to 100% humidity rating and the IP66/IP67 housing help in dusty and humid coastal conditions, and the weather cover keeps the screen readable under strong sunlight.

About brand

Rosemount is Emerson's brand for pressure, temperature, level and flow measurement, best known for the 3051 pressure transmitter. Frank Werner, Robert Keppel and Vernon Heath founded it in Minnesota in 1956 as Rosemount Engineering Company, first making temperature sensors for aerospace. It moved into the process industries, took the name Rosemount Inc. in 1966, and has been part of Emerson since 1976.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Rosemount transmitters, level instruments, flowmeters and analytical sensors, and supply them and their spares to oil and gas, power, water and process plants in Oman and the GCC by model code.

Many Rosemount transmitters share one platform, so the model code tells you what you have. On a 3051, the letter after the number sets the type: C for coplanar (differential or gauge), T for in-line, L for liquid level and CF for a complete flowmeter. The next characters set the measurement type, the range code, the output (4-20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or WirelessHART) and the wetted materials. A transmitter with the wrong range code may work, but with poor accuracy at the point that matters.

Where Rosemount instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Rosemount instruments are used across upstream oil and gas, gas plants and LNG, refineries, tank farms and terminals, power and desalination stations, and water networks. Ultrasonic gas meters and tank gauges are used for fiscal and custody transfer measurement.

Ordering Rosemount instruments: what we need

Send the full model code from the nameplate (for example 3051CD2A22A1AM5B4) and the tag if it is a replacement. For a new instrument, send the measuring range, process connection, wetted materials, output protocol and hazardous area approval.
