Brand:

Rosemount SeniorSonic 3414 4-Path Gas Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Description

A custody transfer gas ultrasonic meter for transmission pipelines

The Rosemount SeniorSonic 3414 is a 4-path chordal gas ultrasonic flow meter engineered for custody transfer, offering bidirectional flow, high capacity and no incremental pressure drop in line sizes from 4 to 42 in. (DN100 to DN1050). It is driven by Rosemount 3410 Series Electronics, which provide fast sampling, an archive data log with pressure, temperature and gas composition, and calculation of corrected volume, mass and energy rates, so the meter can act like a redundant flow computer. Rangeability is above 100:1, which Emerson says can mean fewer meter runs and smaller line sizes. Typical sites are gas plant inlets and outlets, underground storage, offshore and onshore production, and city gate stations.

Diagnostics and software

The meter works with MeterLink diagnostics software, which Emerson offers as a no-charge download and which is required for transmitter configuration. It provides expert flow analysis, flow disturbance alerts, baseline viewer, speed-of-sound comparison, transducer health monitoring and maintenance logs, and the current firmware adds SMART Meter Verification with scheduled or on-demand PDF or XML reports. Newly shipped devices carry a QR code asset tag to reach serialised documentation in a MyEmerson account.

Sizing and ordering

The datasheet provides flow-rate tables by line size and operating pressure based on Schedule 40 bore, 15 °C and a typical AGA 8 Amarillo gas; for example a DN200 meter at 4,500 kPag at 30.5 m/s passes about 178 thousand standard cubic metres per hour. Materials of construction, flange class, transducer type, electronics options and approvals are selected through the configurator code and must be specified by the customer; the datasheet notes that selecting suitable materials for the service is the user’s responsibility. For flow computers see the FloBoss S600+ and browse other products in Flowmeters.

How the Rosemount SeniorSonic 3414 works

Pairs of transducers send ultrasonic pulses across the gas in the pipe. A pulse sent with the flow arrives sooner than a pulse sent against it. The electronics measure this time difference on four chordal paths. From it they work out the gas velocity and then the volume flow.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the SeniorSonic 3414

Install the meter with the straight pipe run the site design calls for. Fit the flanges and the gaskets and tighten them evenly. Connect the supply and the signal cables to the electronics. Enter the line data and check the zero flow reading. Read the diagnostics at regular intervals.

About brand

The Rosemount 3051 is one of the most frequently specified pressure transmitters in process plants, and it sits at the center of this listing. Rosemount, a measurement brand that dates from 1956 and has its home in Shakopee, USA, covers pressure, temperature, level and flow with instruments identified by a model string on the nameplate.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Rosemount pressure transmitters, level instruments, temperature transmitters, flowmeters and analytical sensors for sites in Oman and the GCC.

Rosemount product families on this page

Pressure includes the 3051 in its variants (3051T in-line, 3051L for liquid level, 3051CF DP flowmeter and the 3051SMV MultiVariable transmitter), the 2051 and 1199 diaphragm seal systems. Level instruments are the 3300 guided wave radar, the 5408 non-contacting radar and the 2120 vibrating fork switch. Temperature is covered by the 248 and 644 head mount transmitters and the 848T high density transmitter for multiple sensor inputs. The 8800D vortex flowmeter and the 702 wireless discrete transmitter are also listed, along with liquid analysis sensors.

Where Rosemount instruments are used

These are standard instruments in oil and gas production, refining, petrochemical, power and water plants. Typical duties are line and vessel pressure, differential pressure flow across orifice plates, tank and separator level and interface, and temperature measurement on pipes, reactors and rotating equipment.

Ordering Rosemount transmitters: what we need

Send the complete model string and the serial number from the nameplate; a photo is ideal. Every character of the string selects something: range, output, materials of the isolating diaphragm and flange, process connection, housing, approval and options. If you are specifying a new point, give the measured variable and span, process fluid, pressure and temperature, connection, output (4-20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or wireless), display and hazardous area approval. For remote seals add flange size, rating and capillary length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SeniorSonic 3414 designed for?
Custody transfer of natural gas in transmission lines. The datasheet lists power plant inlets, gas processing plant inlets and outlets, underground storage, onshore and offshore production, and city gate stations.
What accuracy does the datasheet state?
Flow calibrated accuracy is plus or minus 0.1 percent of reading over the entire flow calibration range, with repeatability of plus or minus 0.05 percent of reading for 5 to 100 ft/s (1.5 to 30.5 m/s). It states conformity to AGA 9 and ISO 17089.
