Rosemount JuniorSonic 3411 and 3412 Gas Ultrasonic Flow Meters
Description
Cost-effective gas ultrasonic metering for check and allocation duty
The Rosemount JuniorSonic 3411 and 3412 are 1-path and 2-path gas ultrasonic flow meters with a single-bounce design for non-custody transfer applications that still need accuracy, repeatability and dependable long-term performance. Emerson lists check metering, allocation measurement, leak detection and storage as typical uses, at gas production sites onshore and offshore, shale gas and underground storage inlets and outlets. They come in line sizes from DN100 to DN900 with Rosemount 3410 Series Electronics and extractable T-21 transducers, which allow servicing down to the transformer without process interruption or depressurising the meter.

Choosing a bounce-path meter
A single-bounce path suits check metering where lower cost matters more than the uncertainty of a four-path custody meter; the 2-path 3412 adds redundancy in the measurement. The 3410 Series Electronics log pressure, temperature and gas composition, calculate corrected volume, mass and energy rates, and can act as a redundant flow computer. Archive logs and MeterLink diagnostics give functional process and systematic diagnostics, and a field-replaceable transformer module simplifies maintenance. If the application is custody transfer, choose one of the multipath Rosemount meters instead. For flow computers see the FloBoss S600+, and browse Flowmeters for others.
Installation
The datasheet includes recommended pipe lengths with and without a flow conditioner and for bidirectional meters, and notes that flow conditioning is recommended for best results. Pipe diameters upstream and downstream are expressed as multiples of nominal pipe size, with the temperature measurement location marked. Other lengths or conditioners can be accommodated after consulting an Emerson ultrasonics specialist.
How the Rosemount JuniorSonic 3411 works
An ultrasonic gas flow meter sends sound pulses between transducers across the gas stream. The pulse that travels with the flow arrives earlier than the pulse that travels against it, and the difference in time gives the gas velocity. The meter then calculates the volume flow from the velocity and the pipe area. The 3411 uses one path with two transducers, and the 3412 uses two paths with four transducers. Both use a single bounce design, and the 3410 Series electronics control the transducers and make the output. The transducers are extractable, so the meter can be serviced without a process interruption.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes
Check the pipe size, the pressure class and the flange type against the meter. Provide the straight lengths and the flow conditioning that the manual asks for, and mount the meter in the right direction. Wire the electronics in the hazardous area according to the certificate and the site rules. Set the gas data and the speed of sound method, then check the readings against a known reference. Keep a record of the settings, and use the extractable transducers for service.
Requesting a quotation for the Rosemount JuniorSonic 3411
Send the line size, the pressure class and the number of paths. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.
Single bounce path
A single bounce path suits check metering where lower cost matters, while the 2-path 3412 adds redundancy in the measurement.
Speed of sound
The meter offers AGA 10 2008, AGA 8 and GERG-2008 methods, and GERG-2008 needs a software key.
Rangeability
The rangeability is above 100 to 1, so the meter covers large changes of the gas flow.
Meter records
Record the line size, the serial number and the configuration of each meter.
Choosing the line size
Match the meter to the pipe size of the line, and check the gas velocity range against the expected flows. Low flows near the minimum velocity are measured with less certainty, so size the meter for the real operating range and not for the peak alone.
Hazardous area notes
The certificate lists the marking and the ambient range for the electronics, so check that they fit the zone of the site before ordering.

About brand
The Rosemount 3051 is one of the most frequently specified pressure transmitters in process plants, and it sits at the center of this listing. Rosemount, a measurement brand that dates from 1956 and has its home in Shakopee, USA, covers pressure, temperature, level and flow with instruments identified by a model string on the nameplate.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Rosemount pressure transmitters, level instruments, temperature transmitters, flowmeters and analytical sensors for sites in Oman and the GCC.
Rosemount product families on this page
Pressure includes the 3051 in its variants (3051T in-line, 3051L for liquid level, 3051CF DP flowmeter and the 3051SMV MultiVariable transmitter), the 2051 and 1199 diaphragm seal systems. Level instruments are the 3300 guided wave radar, the 5408 non-contacting radar and the 2120 vibrating fork switch. Temperature is covered by the 248 and 644 head mount transmitters and the 848T high density transmitter for multiple sensor inputs. The 8800D vortex flowmeter and the 702 wireless discrete transmitter are also listed, along with liquid analysis sensors.
Where Rosemount instruments are used
These are standard instruments in oil and gas production, refining, petrochemical, power and water plants. Typical duties are line and vessel pressure, differential pressure flow across orifice plates, tank and separator level and interface, and temperature measurement on pipes, reactors and rotating equipment.
Ordering Rosemount transmitters: what we need
Send the complete model string and the serial number from the nameplate; a photo is ideal. Every character of the string selects something: range, output, materials of the isolating diaphragm and flange, process connection, housing, approval and options. If you are specifying a new point, give the measured variable and span, process fluid, pressure and temperature, connection, output (4-20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or wireless), display and hazardous area approval. For remote seals add flange size, rating and capillary length.
