Measurement Principle

The Rosemount 5300 sends a radar signal down a probe in contact with the media. When the pulse reaches a media with a different dielectric constant, part of the energy reflects back to the transmitter, and the time difference between the transmitted and reflected pulse is converted into a distance from which the total level or interface level is calculated.

The 5300 delivers cutting-edge performance with Dynamic Vector Technology (DST), a rapid switch for signal transmission between transmitter and receiver that minimizes signal losses, resulting in a signal 2 to 5 times stronger than other guided wave radar transmitters. This improved signal-to-noise ratio enables long measuring ranges up to 164 ft (50m) and reliable measurement on low-reflective media with dielectrics as low as 1.4, even with a single-lead probe.
