Rosemount 3415 and 3416 Dual-Configuration Gas Ultrasonic Meters

Description

Custody metering and continuous verification in one body

The Rosemount 3415 and 3416 dual-configuration gas ultrasonic flow meters combine a field-proven 4-path chordal, British Gas-design custody meter with a second, reflective check meter in the same body. The check meter provides continuous real-time verification, early warning of process or meter deviations, and backup measurement if needed. The 3415 carries a single-path reflective check meter for blockage, contamination and flow disturbance alerts, while the 3416 adds a vertical reflective path to detect liquid or build-up that can cause measurement error and higher LAUF (lost and unaccounted-for gas). They are offered in DN100 to DN600 with modular 3410 Series Electronics and a patented transducer synchronisation method that raises the sampling rate.

Diagnostics, software and selection

MeterLink software gives real-time monitoring from a PC, and Smart Meter Verification can be accessed via Modbus or MeterLink for a simplified overall measurement status. Direct inputs for pressure, temperature and gas composition allow speed-of-sound calculations to AGA 10 (2003) and GERG-2008 and automatic totalisation of corrected volume, mass and energy. Choose the 3415 where check metering and disturbance detection are enough, and the 3416 where liquid carry-over or pipe-bottom deposits are a concern. For a single 4-path meter without check meter see the Rosemount SeniorSonic 3414 and browse Flowmeters.

How the Rosemount 3415 works

An ultrasonic gas meter sends sound pulses between pairs of transducers that sit at an angle across the pipe. A pulse travelling with the flow arrives sooner than one travelling against it, and the difference in time shows the gas velocity along that path. The electronics combine four paths in the British Gas chordal layout to find the flow through the pipe. The 3415 adds a reflective check path that sends sound across the pipe and back, to watch for blockage, contamination or flow disturbance, and to give a second opinion on the measurement.

Where the Rosemount 3415 is used

  • Custody transfer and fiscal gas metering stations
  • Gas transmission pipelines
  • Gas plants and export points
  • Sites that need continuous meter verification
  • Systems where unaccounted-for gas must be tracked

Selection checklist for the Rosemount 3415

  • Model: 3415 with a one-path check or 3416 with two check paths

  • Flange class from ANSI 300 to 1500
  • Body material: carbon steel, stainless steel or duplex
  • Transducer type for the pressure and temperature
  • Velocity range of the line
  • Approvals needed: AGA 9, ISO 17089, OIML R137, MID
  • Flow calibration of the meter

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Give the meter the upstream straight length that the manual states, and fit a flow conditioner if the layout needs one. Keep the pipe clean and dry inside before starting. Connect the 3410 Series electronics to a DC supply of 10.4 to 36 VDC and to the flow computer through the frequency outputs or Modbus. Set up the meter with the manufacturer software and compare the check meter and the custody meter. Keep a log of the diagnostics and review it on a plan.

Requesting a quotation for the Rosemount 3415

Please send the line size, the pressure class, the gas data and the approvals needed. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Documents and quotation

The Emerson product data sheet 00813-0500-3104 (Rev AD, May 2025) is attached. To quote, we need line size, flange class, gas composition and pressure and temperature range, 3415 or 3416 configuration, material and NACE or NORSOK requirements, hazardous-area approval and the metrology approval required; the meter is then configured against the manufacturer configuration code.

About brand

The Rosemount 3051 is one of the most frequently specified pressure transmitters in process plants, and it sits at the center of this listing. Rosemount, a measurement brand that dates from 1956 and has its home in Shakopee, USA, covers pressure, temperature, level and flow with instruments identified by a model string on the nameplate.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Rosemount pressure transmitters, level instruments, temperature transmitters, flowmeters and analytical sensors for sites in Oman and the GCC.

Rosemount product families on this page

Pressure includes the 3051 in its variants (3051T in-line, 3051L for liquid level, 3051CF DP flowmeter and the 3051SMV MultiVariable transmitter), the 2051 and 1199 diaphragm seal systems. Level instruments are the 3300 guided wave radar, the 5408 non-contacting radar and the 2120 vibrating fork switch. Temperature is covered by the 248 and 644 head mount transmitters and the 848T high density transmitter for multiple sensor inputs. The 8800D vortex flowmeter and the 702 wireless discrete transmitter are also listed, along with liquid analysis sensors.

Where Rosemount instruments are used

These are standard instruments in oil and gas production, refining, petrochemical, power and water plants. Typical duties are line and vessel pressure, differential pressure flow across orifice plates, tank and separator level and interface, and temperature measurement on pipes, reactors and rotating equipment.

Ordering Rosemount transmitters: what we need

Send the complete model string and the serial number from the nameplate; a photo is ideal. Every character of the string selects something: range, output, materials of the isolating diaphragm and flange, process connection, housing, approval and options. If you are specifying a new point, give the measured variable and span, process fluid, pressure and temperature, connection, output (4-20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or wireless), display and hazardous area approval. For remote seals add flange size, rating and capillary length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 3415 and the 3416?
Both combine a 4-path chordal custody meter with a reflective check meter in one body. The 3415 has a single-path reflective check meter. The 3416 adds a second reflective path positioned vertically to detect a thin layer of liquid or build-up at the bottom of the pipe.
Which line sizes are offered?
DN100 to DN600 (4 to 24 in.). DN100 and DN150 use a dual-X orientation and DN200 to DN600 use British Gas orientation.
What accuracy is stated?
The 4-path custody meter is calibrated to plus or minus 0.1 percent of reading, and is OIML R137 Class 0.5 and MID Class 1.0. The reflective check meter is stated at plus or minus 0.2 percent of reading when flow calibrated; metrology approval applies only to the 4-path meter.
Which transducers does the check meter use?
T-21 and T-41 are the only transducers available for the check meter. Standard meters are supplied with T-20 series transducers for wet, rich or dirty gas.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of Rosemount or Emerson?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent industrial supplier in Muscat and is not a distributor or agent of Rosemount or Emerson. For custody transfer meters we work from the manufacturer's configuration code and certified drawings.
