VEGA

Yellow housings on tanks and silos usually mean VEGA. The company, founded in 1959 in Schiltach in Germany’s Black Forest, concentrates on level, point level and pressure measurement. Seven Star LLC lists VEGA radar and guided wave radar level sensors, vibrating and capacitive level switches, pressure transmitters and display units, and sources them for process plants and utilities in Oman.

VEGA product families on this page

VEGA product names state the measuring principle:

  • VEGAPULS: non-contact radar level sensors, including VEGAPULS 6X, VEGAPULS 64, VEGAPULS 69 and the compact VEGAPULS C21
  • VEGAFLEX 81 and 86: guided wave radar level sensors, and VEGAPASS 81, a bypass tube that is combined with a VEGAFLEX to measure outside the vessel
  • VEGASWING 61 and 63: vibrating fork level switches for liquids
  • VEGAPOINT 21: compact capacitive point level switch
  • VEGABAR 82: process pressure transmitter with ceramic measuring cell
  • VEGADIS 176: external display for 4-20 mA loops

Most VEGA transmitters share the plics modular concept: housing, electronics and the PLICSCOM display module are common across measuring principles, which keeps spare parts simple.

Where VEGA sensors and transmitters are used

VEGA level transmitters are common on crude and product tanks, separators, chemical storage, water and wastewater basins, and cement or aggregate silos across the GCC. Vibrating switches serve as overfill and dry-run protection on pumps and vessels. VEGA pressure transmitters measure process pressure and hydrostatic level in liquids and gases.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

A VEGA device is fully described by its order code and serial number. A code such as FX81.ICEAIFAXKMAM starts with the device type (FX81 is a VEGAFLEX 81, PS64 a VEGAPULS 64, B82 a VEGABAR 82) and continues with letters for approval, process fitting, seal, electronics and housing. Send that code, or the serial number from the type label, and we can check the exact build in VEGA documentation. For a new point, add the medium, vessel height, nozzle size, pressure, temperature and area classification.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I identify a VEGA sensor from its type label?
The label shows the product name, an order code and a serial number. The first characters of the order code give the device type, for example PS64 for VEGAPULS 64, FX81 for VEGAFLEX 81 and B82 for VEGABAR 82, followed by letters that define approval, version and material, process fitting, electronics and housing. The serial number alone lets the manufacturer's records show the original configuration.
What replaces the older VEGAPULS 60 series radar sensors?
VEGA introduced the VEGAPULS 6X as a single radar sensor that is configured for the application and that combines the earlier VEGAPULS 61 to 69 models. If your tag list names one of those earlier types, send the order code or serial number and the application data, and we will propose the configuration the manufacturer's documentation gives as its successor.
Are electronics and display modules interchangeable between VEGA devices?
Within the plics family the PLICSCOM display and adjustment module fits different VEGA sensors, and housings follow a common design. Electronics modules are specific to the sensor type, signal output and approval, so they must be matched to the serial number. Send the serial number of the device that needs the spare electronics.
Which approvals are available for VEGA level and pressure instruments?
The approval is part of the order code. VEGA offers versions for hazardous areas under ATEX and IECEx, versions qualified for SIL applications with a safety manual, overfill protection approvals for certain markets, and hygienic versions for food and pharma. State the required approval and protection type in your inquiry because it cannot be added to a delivered device.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of VEGA?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier, not an authorized distributor or representative of VEGA. We source VEGA sensors and transmitters through commercial channels, verify the order code against VEGA documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet, operating instructions and issued certificates with the order when requested.
