AUMA SAREx 10.2 Explosion-Proof Modulating Actuator
Description
Overview
AUMA SAREx 10.2 brings 60 to 120 Nm tripping torque (S4-25 %) and up to 60 / 30 Nm modulating torque (S4-25 % / S4-50 %) to the single F10 flange of EN ISO 5210, as third frame of the modulating Ex range.
The SAREx 10.2 is supplied across Oman and the GCC by Seven Star LLC, a trusted AUMA supplier, with quotation, delivery planning and commissioning support. Plants in Duqm and Salalah are served from Muscat. Compare it with the Ex modulating range (SAREx), the SAEx series overview and the AUMA MATIC AM/AC integral actuator controls.
Operating Principle of the AUMA SAREx 10.2
In the SAREx 10.2, modulating torque is 60 Nm (S4-25 %) and 30 Nm (S4-50 %) up to 45 rpm, and 50 / 25 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm. The reduction gear and a mechanical counter system keep position, and an AMExC or ACExC control sends the pulses. Self-locking is documented for the whole series.
Engineering Design of the SAREx 10.2
The SAREx 10.2 has a 50 ms minimum pulse and reversal pulses of up to 260 ms at the slowest speed, so slower speeds are the usual choice for gentle positioning. Its 26 to 28 kg mass and 200 mm handwheel suit medium control valves. Check that valve friction stays below the 60 Nm modulating torque (50 Nm above 45 rpm) over the whole stroke.
The wiring route is an AUMA Ex plug/socket connector (KT) with spring-clamp control terminals; the housing is IP68 and the heater option is 12.5 W.
Key Features of the AUMA SAREx 10.2
What the AUMA SAREx 10.2 offers at a glance:
- Trip torque from 60 to 120 Nm for S4-25 % duty, up to 90 Nm for S4-50 %.
- Continuous positioning torque of 60 / 30 Nm at S4-25 % / S4-50 %.
- Output speeds of 4–90 rpm at 50 Hz, with starts graded by speed band.
- Approximate weight of 26 kg (4–22 rpm), 28 kg (32–90 rpm) and 200 mm handwheel.
- Pulse timing 50 ms (same direction); on reversal 260 ms at 4 rpm down to 60 ms at 90 rpm. Motors of 0.06–0.70 kW at 400 V.
Selecting the AUMA SAREx 10.2 for Your Valve
The SAREx 10.2 provides 60 to 120 Nm tripping torque and a 60 Nm modulating torque at S4-25% for speeds up to 45 rpm. Its F10 flange and 40 mm stem capacity suit medium-size control valves in hazardous areas. The permissible starts per hour are 1,000 up to 45 rpm and 800 from 63 to 90 rpm, which supports closed-loop control with frequent small corrections.
The SAREx 10.2 doubles the SAREx 07.6 trip ceiling from 60 to 120 Nm on an F10 flange with a 200 mm handwheel. Valves above 120 Nm move to the SAREx 14.2 on F14, rated to 250 Nm.
AUMA SAREx 10.2 Modulating Torque and Starts by Speed
These are the modulating limits of the AUMA SAREx 10.2 by output speed, valid at nominal voltage and +40 °C. Tripping torque is adjustable up to 120 Nm (S4-25 %) or 90 Nm (S4-50 %). Illustrative calculation, not AUMA data: a control valve with 10 turns per stroke needs 75 s at 8 rpm, 13 s at 45 rpm and 7 s at 90 rpm for a full stroke.
| Output speed, rpm | Modulating torque, S4-25 / S4-50 %, Nm | Maximum starts per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 4–45 | 60 / 30 | 1,000 |
| 63–90 | 50 / 25 | 800 |
Loop-tuning note: the SAREx 10.2 allows 1,000 starts per hour up to 45 rpm and 800 from 63 rpm, with a 50 ms minimum pulse and reversal pulses between 260 ms (4 rpm) and 60 ms (90 rpm). Because modulating torque also steps down from 60 Nm to 50 Nm at 63 rpm, speeds up to 45 rpm are the usual choice when valve friction is above 50 Nm.
Worked Sizing Example for the SAREx 10.2 (Illustrative Calculation)
A level control valve in a produced-water separator has a friction torque of 45 Nm. The SAREx 10.2 provides 60 Nm at S4-25 % up to 45 rpm, which suffices, while the 50 Nm limit at 63 to 90 rpm leaves little margin. A speed of 16 to 22 rpm, with 1,000 starts per hour and a reversal pulse of 100 to 90 ms, is typically a good compromise between response and positioning accuracy. This is an illustrative calculation, not AUMA data.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
