Brand:

AUMA SQR 07.2 Modulating Part-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

AUMA SQR 07.2 takes the modulating design of the SQR 05.2 and doubles its torque capacity without changing the footprint. The tripping torque is adjustable from 150 Nm to 300 Nm, and the permissible modulating torque is 150 Nm at S4 – 25 % duty. For a control valve whose torque demand during travel approaches the upper end of what a 75 Nm modulating limit allows, this is the frame to specify.

Seven Star LLC, official trusted supplier and regional supplier for AUMA, supplies the AUMA SQR 07.2 to industrial, utility and building-services projects across Oman and the GCC. Our engineers compare the control valve torque curve with the modulating rating before recommending this size, because under-sizing a modulating actuator shortens its service life.

Reading the Modulating Torque Data

Two numbers define the modulating capability of the AUMA SQR 07.2. At S4 – 25 % the modulating torque is limited to 150 Nm, and with the optional S4 – 50 % duty class the figure falls to 110 Nm and the maximum tripping torque is limited to 220 Nm. The minimum tripping setting is 150 Nm. Because the modulating rating is half the maximum tripping torque, the valve should be sized so that its running torque stays well below the modulating limit and only the seating torque approaches the tripping value.

The same six operating times as the SQR 05.2 are available at 50 Hz: 8, 11, 16, 22, 32 and 63 seconds. Pulse duration for movement in the same direction is 50 ms, and the minimum pulse on reversal rises from 160 ms at the fastest ratio through 200, 265, 350 and 480 ms at the slower ratios. Up to 1,500 starts per hour are permitted, which supports flow and pressure loops with frequent correction. The 63 s ratio is available at S4 – 25 % only.

Engineering Design of the AUMA SQR 07.2

Mechanically the AUMA SQR 07.2 shares the F05/F07 flange, F10 option, 25.4 mm cylindrical, 22 mm square and 22 mm two-flat shaft capacity and the 160 mm handwheel of its smaller sibling. The handwheel needs 11 or 16 turns for 90 degrees, and a mechanical position indicator shows valve position without power. An SQR 07.2 can therefore be fitted to a valve bracket originally drawn for a 05.2 if a retrofit demands more torque.

The weight is about 21 kg, or 27 kg with base and lever, and the 1-phase AC version is listed at roughly 23 kg and 29 kg. IP68 enclosure protection and KS corrosion protection are standard. Position feedback is delivered through AM or AC actuator controls, and the AC controls add data logging and non-intrusive settings through the magnetic limit and torque transmitter, which helps commissioning in hot outdoor locations.

Key Features

The AUMA SQR 07.2 offers more control torque while keeping the compact SQ .2 housing.

  • A tripping torque of 150 Nm to 300 Nm with 150 Nm modulating torque at S4 – 25 % suits larger control valves than the 05.2.
  • The S4 – 50 % option allows 110 Nm modulating torque and 220 Nm maximum tripping torque for heavier duty cycles.
  • Up to 1,500 starts per hour and a 50 ms pulse duration enable fine positioning in closed loops.
  • Reversal pulse durations from 160 ms to 480 ms across the main ratios keep direction changes controlled.
  • Six operating times from 8 s to 63 s allow loop speed to be tuned.
  • The same F05/F07 flange and 160 mm handwheel as the 05.2 simplify valve brackets and spares.
  • IP68 and KS corrosion protection withstand outdoor and coastal exposure.
  • Combines with AM or AC controls for analogue, Profibus, Modbus and other fieldbus control.

Selection Guidance for the AUMA SQR 07.2

When deciding between the SQR 05.2 and the AUMA SQR 07.2, compare the valve running torque with the modulating figures, not the tripping range. A control valve with a running torque of 100 Nm exceeds the 75 Nm modulating limit of the 05.2 but sits comfortably within the 150 Nm of this frame. Using the larger actuator in that case keeps the motor away from its thermal limit and extends the life of the gear train.

Also decide whether the S4 – 50 % option is needed. It reduces the modulating torque to 110 Nm but allows a heavier duty cycle, which makes sense for loops with an aggressive controller.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA SQR 07.2 suits control butterfly valves on cooling-water branches, ball valves on fuel and process gas regulation, and larger dampers in HVAC plants. In water treatment it positions valves on filter backwash and chemical dosing headers where flow must be adjusted frequently. Power station auxiliary systems use it on moderate-torque control valves that are cycled throughout the day.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the SQR 07.2 to customers in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah, with local support.

Neighbouring modulating frames are the AUMA SQR 05.2.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What modulating torque does the AUMA SQR 07.2 allow?
AUMA lists a maximum modulating torque of 150 Nm at S4 - 25 % and 110 Nm at the optional S4 - 50 % duty. The tripping torque range is 150 Nm to 300 Nm.
When should I choose the AUMA SQR 07.2 instead of the SQR 05.2?
Choose the SQR 07.2 when the running torque of the control valve approaches or exceeds the 75 Nm modulating limit of the SQR 05.2. The mounting envelope is the same, so the change is straightforward.
How fine can the AUMA SQR 07.2 position a valve?
The pulse duration for movement in one direction is 50 ms, and the minimum pulse on reversal ranges from 160 ms to 480 ms across the main ratios, which governs how small a correction step the loop can request.
Is the 63 second operating time available at S4 - 50 %?
No. AUMA shows the S4 - 50 % values as not available for the 63 s ratio of the SQR 07.2.
Is Seven Star LLC a trusted supplier for AUMA products?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies genuine AUMA products across Oman and the GCC, so every actuator is genuine AUMA product supplied with correct documentation and local technical support.
