AUMA SAEx 30.1 Explosion-Proof Multi-Turn Actuator
Description
Overview
AUMA SAEx 30.1 is the eighth SAEx size, covering 1,250–4,000 Nm (S2-15 min) on an F30 flange of EN ISO 5210. The handwheel has a diameter of 500 mm.
Seven Star LLC delivers the SAEx 30.1 to EPC contractors and plant owners in Oman and the GCC as trusted AUMA supplier. Lifting plans and valve-yoke checks are best agreed during the RFQ stage, which our Muscat team supports. Related links: Ex multi-turn range (SAEx), SAREx range and AUMA GST spur gearboxes.
Operating Principle of the AUMA SAEx 30.1
The SAEx 30.1 uses a 3-phase AC squirrel-cage motor and reduction gearing to drive the output; torque switching trips at up to 4,000 Nm and limit gears set the stroke. Self-locking holds the valve up to 90 rpm; the 125 and 180 rpm versions are not self-locking. AMExC or ACExC controls are required.
Engineering Design of the SAEx 30.1
With 195 to 265 kg to lift and a 500 mm handwheel to clear, the SAEx 30.1 requires a lifting plan, a clear platform and, usually, a stem extension study. Verify the F30 flange and the 115 mm stem bore against the valve before ordering. Torque capacity depends on speed, from 4,000 Nm up to 90 rpm to 2,800 Nm at 180 rpm, so confirm the final speed together with the required torque.
The terminal compartment is separate from the motor connection; actuator controls connect directly, IP67 is standard with IP68 as an option, and a 12.5 to 25 W heater is available.
Key Features of the AUMA SAEx 30.1
Data points that matter most when specifying the AUMA SAEx 30.1:
- Tripping torque of 1,250 to 4,000 Nm (S2-15 min) and up to 2,800 Nm at S2-30 min.
- Permitted run torque begins at 1,400 Nm and ends at 460 Nm for S2-15 min, depending on speed.
- Speed range 4–180 rpm (50 Hz) and a limit of 40 starts per hour.
- Approximate weight of 195 kg (4–22 rpm), 265 kg (32–180 rpm) and 500 mm handwheel.
- 2.2–30 kW motors at 400 V draw 11–65 A nominal current.
Selecting the AUMA SAEx 30.1 for Your Valve
The SAEx 30.1 offers 1,250 to 4,000 Nm of tripping torque on an F30 flange with a 115 mm stem capacity and a 500 mm handwheel. It is the choice for large gate valves, large isolation valves and valves with long stems, where the 25.1 would run out of torque margin. The maximum tripping torque drops to 3,200 Nm at 125 rpm and 2,800 Nm at 180 rpm, and run torque is stepped from 1,400 Nm to 460 Nm across the speed range. Weights of 195 kg and 265 kg mean that handling equipment is mandatory.
The SAEx 30.1 doubles the SAEx 25.1 range and reaches 4,000 Nm on F30 with a 115 mm stem and 500 mm handwheel. For 2,500 to 8,000 Nm, the SAEx 35.1 steps to F35 and a 155 mm stem, with a 30 starts per hour limit.
AUMA SAEx 30.1 Torque and Speed Data
The following limits apply to the AUMA SAEx 30.1 at rated voltage and an ambient temperature of +40 °C. Illustrative calculation, not AUMA data: a valve needing 75 turns per stroke takes 409 s at 11 rpm, 100 s at 45 rpm and 25 s at 180 rpm.
| rpm (50 Hz) | Max. trip torque S2-15 / S2-30, Nm | Run torque S2-15 / S2-30, Nm |
|---|---|---|
| 4–11 | 4,000 / 2,800 | 1,400 / 700 |
| 16–22 | 4,000 / 2,800 | 1,200 / 600 |
| 32–45 | 4,000 / 2,800 | 900 / 450 |
| 63–90 | 4,000 / 2,800 | 700 / 350 |
| 125 | 3,200 / 2,200 | 500 / 250 |
| 180 | 2,800 / 2,000 | 460 / 230 |
Worked Sizing Example for the SAEx 30.1 (Illustrative Calculation)
A tank-farm isolation valve is rated at 2,900 Nm seating torque and 800 Nm running torque. The SAEx 30.1 provides 4,000 Nm and a run torque of 900 Nm at 32 to 45 rpm, which satisfies the running demand, while 700 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm does not. The designer may therefore choose 45 rpm as the fastest acceptable speed. In this example the 4,000 Nm range leaves a comfortable reserve above the seating requirement. This is an illustrative calculation, not AUMA data.

The AUMA SAEx 30.1 is a large-valve actuator for pipeline and terminal service, for example crude-oil transfer valves, large tank-farm block valves and big process isolation valves in hazardous zones. With up to 4,000 Nm tripping torque, it extends the SAEx range well beyond typical plant-floor valves.
Operators of export terminals, pumping stations and storage facilities in Oman specify this frame where a long stroke and high seating torque are needed. Seven Star LLC arranges quotation, delivery and local support for the SAEx 30.1 together with matching ACExC or AMExC controls.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
For a replacement send photos of the actuator, motor and controls nameplates: type, order number, serial number and wiring diagram number. For a new actuator we need:- valve type, required torque or thrust, and turns or stroke
- valve mounting flange and stem or shaft details
- output speed, duty (open-close or modulating)
