AUMA LE 50.1 Linear Thrust Unit (37.5 kN)

Description

Overview

AUMA LE 50.1 is the third of six sizes in AUMA’s linear thrust range, and it is where the range starts to handle genuinely forceful valves. Fed by an SA 10.2, it develops between 12.5 and 37.5 kN of push or pull on the stem, roughly three times what the smallest LE 12.1 can offer. Four stroke options (63, 125, 250 and 400 mm) mean that one size covers many medium-size sliding-stem valves, from compact regulating valves to sturdy isolating valves with a long travel.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA LE 50.1 with SA 10.2 or SAR 10.2 actuators to utilities and industrial customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. We compare your valve’s required thrust and stroke with AUMA’s thrust and speed tables to ensure that the linear unit and actuator are correctly paired.

Operating Principle of the AUMA LE 50.1

Think of the AUMA LE 50.1 as a gearbox that outputs a straight line instead of a rotation. The SA 10.2 spins a nut, the nut drives a threaded spindle, and the spindle’s coupling stud pulls or pushes the valve stem. To estimate thrust from motor torque, divide the torque by AUMA’s factor of 3.2 (Nm per kN, for an adhesion factor of 0.15); a torque setting of 100 Nm, for example, equals about 31 kN. Closing with clockwise rotation extends the stem in the standard design, and a retracting variant can be ordered.

Figures from the data sheet: SA 10.2 gives 12.5 kN minimum and 37.5 kN maximum thrust, and short-term peaks up to 60 kN are tolerated. The modulating SAR 10.2 starts at 20 kN, tops out at 37.5 kN and is rated 18.8 kN for continuous modulating torque. The stem moves 24 mm per minute when the actuator turns at 4 rpm, and 192 mm per minute at 32 rpm; at the 45 rpm limit the speed is 270 mm per minute.

Engineering Design of the AUMA LE 50.1

The mounting face is F10 and the valve side uses a DIN 3358 flange, so existing valve yokes can often be reused. The stem coupling is a 32 x 6 left-hand thread. Mass climbs gently with travel: 10 kg for 63 mm, 12 kg for 125 mm, 15 kg for 250 mm and 18 kg for 400 mm, not counting the actuator or the base plate, which keeps handling simple on site.

Closed housings with IP67 sealing and the KS coating system make the unit suitable for exposed plant areas. A two-component iron-mica finish in AUMA silver-grey is applied, the operating temperature range is -25 to +80 degrees Celsius, and AUMA offers hot (up to 120 degrees) and cold (-40 or -60 degrees) options. Duty is short-time S2 with 15 minutes, and full load should be limited to the brief moments of opening and closing.

Travel, Mass and Thrust Table for the AUMA LE 50.1

AUMA lists the AUMA LE 50.1 with four travel lengths, each with its own mass and an identical thrust window.

Maximum stroke Approximate weight Min. thrust (SA) Max. thrust (SA)
63 mm 10 kg 12.5 kN 37.5 kN
125 mm 12 kg 12.5 kN 37.5 kN
250 mm 15 kg 12.5 kN 37.5 kN
400 mm 18 kg 12.5 kN 37.5 kN

The thrust window is identical for all four strokes, and only the weight and the stem travel change.

Key Features

The AUMA LE 50.1 sits in the middle of AUMA’s linear thrust range:

  • Thrust between 12.5 and 37.5 kN, with 60 kN tolerated briefly.
  • Four travel lengths: 63, 125, 250 and 400 mm.
  • SA 10.2 for on-off duty or SAR 10.2 for regulating duty (20 to 37.5 kN).
  • Left-hand 32 x 6 stem thread and a torque-to-thrust factor of 3.2.
  • F10 actuator interface and a DIN 3358 flange towards the valve.
  • Stem speeds from 24 mm/min up to 270 mm/min.
  • 10 to 18 kg depending on the stroke selected.
  • Spindle drive that stays put without power, with IP67 and KS protection.

Industrial Applications

Typical jobs for the AUMA LE 50.1 are medium-size globe valves on steam and thermal-oil lines, sliding-stem control valves in process skids and linear isolating valves in power-plant auxiliaries. In industrial areas near Sohar and Duqm it lets maintenance teams motorise valves that were built for handwheels, without replacing the valve itself, and the regulating variant offers steady stem positioning when paired with AUMA controls.

Seven Star LLC, a trusted supplier of AUMA products, sells the LE 50.1 together with its SA 10.2 or SAR 10.2 drive to contractors and operators in Oman and across the GCC. For context see the AUMA LE linear thrust unit overview page, the AUMA SA 10.2 multi-turn actuator that drives this size and the AUMA SAR 14.1 modulating actuator for regulating duty.

Technical Specifications

The LE 12.1 to LE 200.1 sheet covers six types; the AUMA LE 50.1 values are listed below.

Parameter Specification
Model AUMA LE 50.1
Construction Spindle-type linear thrust unit
Drive SA 10.2 on-off; SAR 10.2 regulating
Travel options 63, 125, 250, 400 mm
Thrust 12.5 to 37.5 kN (SAR: 20 to 37.5 kN)
Peak thrust tolerated 60 kN
Actuator interface F10, DIN 3358 valve flange
Stem thread 32 x 6 LH
Torque-to-thrust factor 3.2
Stem velocity 24 to 270 mm/min
Mass 10 to 18 kg
Duty rating S2 – 15 min
Protection and climate IP67; -25 to +80 °C

With a factor of 3.2, thrust of 12.5 to 37.5 kN corresponds to roughly 40 to 120 Nm of actuator torque, and AUMA applies a tolerance of plus or minus 20 percent to the torque-switch setting.

Matching Stroke Time and Thrust Limits on the AUMA LE 50.1

Stem speed on the LE 50.1 follows the SA 10.2 speed: 24 mm/min at 4 rpm, 33 at 5.6 rpm, 48 at 8 rpm, 66 at 11 rpm, 96 at 16 rpm, 132 at 22 rpm, 192 at 32 rpm and 270 mm/min at the 45 rpm limit. A 250 mm valve travel is therefore covered in about ten minutes at the slowest ratio, in 78 seconds at 192 mm/min and in under a minute at 270 mm/min, and the 400 mm travel needs about two minutes at 192 mm/min. Designers should also note that AUMA gives the torque-switch thrust tolerance as plus or minus 20 percent. The permissible thrust window of 12.5 to 37.5 kN is therefore best compared with the valve’s seating and unseating forces including a margin, and the 60 kN exceptional load is intended for brief peaks only, not for continuous operation.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.
