Honeywell XCD SPXCDALMG1 Hydrogen Detector 0-1000ppm
Description
Overview
The Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector SPXCDALMG1 is a fixed gas detector configured for hydrogen (H2) measurement with a full scale range of 0-1000 ppm, housed in an LM25 aluminium enclosure with M20 cable entries. It is part of the Sensepoint XCD range of loop-powered, ATEX and IECEx approved gas detectors with a local display, configurable alarms and a 4-20 mA output.
Hydrogen detection matters wherever batteries are charged, where hydrogen is used as a process gas or where hydrogen sulfide cracking is a concern. The Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector measures hydrogen at low ppm levels, giving operators early warning before flammable concentrations build up.
Engineering & Design
The Sensepoint XCD transmitter platform accepts plug-in sensors: Surecell electrochemical sensors, poison-resistant catalytic flammable sensors and infrared sensors. For hydrogen, the detector measures 0-1000 ppm with a user-selectable full scale range and default alarm points, and reports via a 4-20 mA output that can be configured as sink or source.
Alarm set points, ranges, relay behaviour and the output mode are configured through the magnetic switch interface without opening the enclosure, which keeps the certification of the detector intact during commissioning and maintenance. The detector supports the complete Sensepoint XCD range of gases, so a site standardizing on the XCD platform can stock one transmitter type and the specific plug-in sensors for each hazard. For hydrogen service, the electrochemical cell is the drop-in sensing element that gives the ppm measurement this configuration is ordered with.
Two programmable alarm relays and one programmable fault relay provide local switching, and an optional MODBUS output enables remote diagnostics and configuration. The tri-colour backlit LCD shows gas readings and icons clearly, and all configuration is done with non-intrusive magnetic switches. The housing is LM25 aluminium with 2 x M20 cable/conduit entries, rated IP66, certified for -40 °C to +75 °C.

Compatibility
The Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector is part of the Sensepoint XCD family and uses the standard plug-in sensor interface. The transmitter can be converted to another gas by fitting the matching Sensepoint sensor; calibration accessories such as the S3KCAL calibration cup are supported.
Ordering Information
Order the Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector SPXCDALMG1 for 0-1000 ppm hydrogen monitoring. For MODBUS output add M to the part number (SPXCDALMG1M). Calibration gas for hydrogen testing is available from gas suppliers per the detector configuration.
The XCD hydrogen detector covers the 0-1000 ppm range with the catalytic sensor, and the transmitter outputs the 4-20 mA signal with the HART protocol.
The catalytic sensor of the XCD transmitter is field replaceable, and the display shows the measured value locally.
Why Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC supplies Honeywell gas detection equipment to plants across Oman and the GCC. The Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector is supplied.
Our engineers help you verify the exact model and revision before ordering, avoiding costly mismatches.
Confirming the Right Hydrogen Detector Configuration
The part number is the quickest way to confirm the detector. SPXCDALMG1 identifies the LM25 aluminium housing with M20 entries, and the suffix M (SPXCDALMG1M) adds the MODBUS output. When replacing or adding units, check the following:
- The target gas and range on the fitted sensor label: hydrogen, 0-1000 ppm for this configuration.
- The output wiring expected by the fire and gas panel: 4-20 mA sink or source, plus any relay contacts in use.
- The cable entry thread and gland type, and the area classification at the mounting point.
- Whether the site standard requires MODBUS for remote diagnostics.
Installation and Commissioning
Hydrogen is much lighter than air, so detectors are normally mounted high, near the ceiling or above the likely leak source. Suitable locations include battery charging rooms, the upper part of analyser houses, and areas around generator cooling systems. Avoid dead air pockets and positions exposed to direct water spray. After wiring, power the transmitter and allow the sensor to stabilise. Then use the magnetic switches to set the range, alarm levels and relay behaviour required by the cause and effect chart. Finish with a zero check and a span calibration using certified hydrogen test gas, applied through the calibration cup. Confirm each alarm and fault signal at the control panel.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Bump test and calibrate at the interval set by the site gas detection procedure, and keep records of the as-found readings.
- Electrochemical cells have a finite life. A slow response or failed span calibration is the usual sign that the plug-in sensor needs replacement.
- Other gases can cause cross-sensitivity on electrochemical cells, so an unexpected reading should be checked against the process conditions before the detector is condemned.
- A fault indication on the tri-colour display should be checked against the fault list in the manual before hardware is changed.
Applications in Oman and the GCC
Battery rooms in substations and telecom shelters, hydrogen-cooled generators in power plants, and refinery units handling hydrogen-rich streams all need low-level hydrogen monitoring. The Honeywell XCD hydrogen detector is also rated for -40°C to +75°C with IP66 protection, which suits hot and dusty Gulf sites.

About brand
Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Honeywell gas detectors and sensors, transmitters, Elster gas meters and flow computers, Gent fire alarm equipment and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers, and supply them and their spares in Oman and the GCC by part number.

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.
Where Honeywell products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.
Ordering Honeywell products: what we need
Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.
Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.
