Range Limits, Loop Power and Fill Fluid Selection
Within the STR800 remote seal family the Honeywell STR82D is the differential-pressure water-column model, with an upper range limit of 400 inH2O (1000 mbar), a lower range limit of -400 inH2O (-1000 mbar) and a minimum span of 4.0 inH2O (10 mbar). Those figures are what produce the quoted 100:1 rangeability, and they matter at specification time: a loop calibrated far below the minimum span will not hold the 0.0375% of span reference accuracy regardless of how well the seals are installed. Loop power is conventional two-wire, 10.8 to 42.4 Vdc measured at the transmitter terminals with intrinsically safe versions limited to 30 Vdc, driving a loop load of 0 to 1,440 ohms, so existing 4–20 mA infrastructure in a legacy plant will normally accept the transmitter without a barrier or power-supply change.
Fill fluid selection is the decision that most often determines whether a remote seal installation performs as designed.
