Gent S4-34420 Vigilon Loop Powered Interface Range

Description

Loop powered inputs and outputs for Vigilon fire systems

The Gent S4-34420 is the single input/output interface in the Vigilon range of loop powered interface units. Vigilon can accommodate a high quantity of these units, which offer a flexible range of inputs and outputs from the fire detection and alarm system for plant control, signalling other systems during a fire and linking with sprinklers, security or other emergency management systems.

Each device is individually addressed, which maximises information and allows flexible cause and effect. Each carries an EN54-17 short circuit isolator for enhanced system integrity and the range is certified to EN54-17 and EN54-18. Interfaces are either powered from the loop or need a separate mains supply, and the mains-powered version has its own battery backup. Options connect conventional detectors such as flame and beam detectors.

Choosing an interface type

Use S4-34410 where only a monitored input is needed, for example a flow switch or an auxiliary contact, and S4-34420 where one input and one output are both needed. The 4 channel S4-34450 reduces cost per point on plant rooms. Mains switching interfaces S4-34415, S4-34401 and S4-34404 control higher-voltage equipment, and the key switch interface S4-34418 gives an on-site manual override. The 12 input module S4-34412 collects supervisory inputs.

The load factors above matter for loop design: each interface uses part of the 200 device loop capacity, and LED outputs and zone inputs add to the total, so the final count should be verified in the panel loop calculator.

Selection notes

Confirm the loop card and main control card firmware against the compatibility figures before mixing interfaces with an older panel. For a panel and loop card on this site see the Gent VIGPLUS-72 Vigilon Plus control panel. Browse related fire panels in the logic controller category.

Key features of the S4-34420

  • One monitored input and one output in a single loop-powered, individually addressed device.
  • Built-in EN54-17 short circuit isolator, so a fault on one loop section does not disable the whole loop.
  • Certified to EN54-17 and EN54-18, with LPCB approval as listed in the datasheet.
  • Supplied without enclosure, so the housing can be chosen to suit the location: S4-34490 plastic, S4-34492 metal, S4-34496 for six interfaces, or a DIN bracket from the S4-34491 pack.
  • Load factor counted toward the loop total in the same way as other Vigilon devices, for straightforward loop calculations.

Typical cause-and-effect uses

Because the S4-34420 has both an input and an output, it is often placed where a fire alarm action needs a confirmation back to the panel. Examples include:

Output action Input monitored
Release door holders or unlock access-controlled doors Door position or release confirmation
Signal the HVAC or BMS to stop air handling units Fan stopped or damper closed contact
Recall lifts to the designated floor Lift at floor confirmation
Send an alarm signal to another system Fault or acknowledgement contact from that system

Where the output must switch mains voltage directly, a mains switching interface from the range is the correct choice instead.

Installation and commissioning

  • Choose the enclosure by location; the datasheet gives IP31 for the large plastic box and IP40 for the small metal box, so plant rooms with dust or water spray may need additional protection.
  • Install within the stated environment of up to 95 percent relative humidity, +5 to +45 °C, non-condensing.
  • Address each unit and record its location and function in the panel configuration and as-built documents.
  • Test every input and output against the approved cause-and-effect matrix during commissioning and at each periodic service.

Project considerations in Oman and the GCC

Fire alarm projects in the region frequently integrate with BMS, access control, lift and smoke management systems in hotels, hospitals, malls and towers, and the civil defence authority reviews the cause-and-effect design. Interface units installed in plant rooms or ceiling voids can see temperatures near or above the +45 °C limit in summer, so locations should be chosen within air-conditioned or ventilated spaces wherever possible.

What to include in an RFQ

List the interface codes and quantities, the enclosure or DIN bracket for each, the panel model and its loop card and main control card firmware versions, and whether the interfaces will be added to an existing loop.

About brand

Vigilon is the analog addressable fire alarm system that has made Gent a familiar name on British-specified buildings. The company's roots go back to 1872 in Leicester, and its panels and loop devices are designed to EN 54. Seven Star LLC supplies Gent fire alarm panels and system parts to contractors and facility teams in Oman, including Vigilon control panels and loop cards for existing sites.

Gent Vigilon panels and parts listed here

Three of the items on this page are panel parts. The Vigilon Compact Plus is the smaller panel for one or two loops. The Vigilon Plus, listed as VIGPLUS-72, is the larger control panel for one to six loops with 72-hour standby capacity. The VIG-LPC-EN loop card adds or replaces a loop circuit in the VIGPLUS-24 and VIGPLUS-72 panels. On the loops, Gent uses its own device families, notably S-Quad devices that combine multi-sensor detection with sounder, voice and visual alarm options.

Ordering Gent fire alarm parts: what we need

Gent systems are configured per site, so details matter. Send the part number from the panel or card label, the panel type and number of loops, the panel firmware version if shown, and the device types on the loop. For a new panel, state loops required, network cards, printer or repeater options and battery size. We supply to projects in the GCC and check each part number against the manufacturer's documentation.
