Measurement Principle

The Polytron 7000 uses proven electrochemical DrägerSensors, specifically developed for year-round, permanent use in stationary gas detection systems, known for their long life and excellent measuring quality. The Polytron 7000 can measure over 100 different gases, with the built-in sensor data memory containing all relevant calibration information, allowing the use of pre-calibrated sensors so the transmitter can function as a virtually maintenance-free device.

Three different software dongles adjust the transmitter to specific application requirements: the sensor test dongle performs patented sensor tests to verify reliability and functionality; the sensor diagnostic dongle evaluates sensor stress and remaining life to plan maintenance and replacement cycles; and the data dongle implements datalogger and eventlogger functions, storing gas values and events such as faults and alarms for later download and evaluation with Dräger Polysoft software.

Engineering Design of the Polytron 7000

The Polytron 7000 features a compact, impact-resistant, glass fibre reinforced polyester (GFRP) enclosure guarded against dust and splashing to IP66/67 and NEMA 4 ratings, measuring 16.6 x 13.5 x 12.9cm and weighing 1.98 lbs. The transmitter operates from a 16.5 to 30VDC 2-wire power supply across an operating temperature range of -40°C to +65°C, with an M20 cable gland entry.

The Polytron 4-20mA signal can communicate with a control system using HART, LON, PROFIBUS, or FOUNDATION Fieldbus, with the modular design allowing subsequent retrofit onto any of these interfaces. A remote sensor adaptor permits mounting up to 30 meters from the transmitter for safe-area operation, while an optional relay module (two gas alarm relays, one fault relay) allows standalone gas detection without a controller, and a pump module option enables sampling from difficult-to-reach areas—both not suitable for hazardous areas.
