Gent S-Quad Multi-Sensor Fire Detector and Sensor Sounder
Description
Overview
The Gent S-Quad is the intelligent analogue sensor range for Honeywell Gent Vigilon fire alarm systems. A single S-Quad head can combine heat sensing, dual angle optical smoke sensing and carbon monoxide sensing, and selected versions add an electronic sounder, voice messages and an EN54-23 visual alarm device in the same housing. Honeywell Gent describes it as a sensor that shares processing between the device and the control panel, so that the system responds immediately to real fires while minimising the risk of false alarms.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Gent S-Quad range in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat, for new Vigilon installations and for maintenance and expansion of existing sites. Because every S-Quad variant plugs into the same base, facility teams can standardise on one base type across a building and choose heat, smoke, multi-sensor or sounder heads room by room, which simplifies spares holding for hotels, hospitals, universities and commercial towers.
Detection Principle
The optical element of the Gent S-Quad uses dual angle light scatter. Smoke entering the chamber scatters light from the emitter, and measuring that scatter at two angles helps the sensor tell the difference between particles from a real fire and nuisance aerosols. The heat element measures temperature directly, and in the multi-sensor heads the panel evaluates both readings together. The top of the range adds a carbon monoxide cell; combining CO with dual angle optical scatter and heat allows a higher level of false alarm immunity in the presence of steam while maintaining the integrity of fire detection, according to the Honeywell Gent data sheet.
Each Gent S-Quad has certified sensitivity settings for particular environments, and the settings can be scheduled for different times of the day, for example a less sensitive mode in a hotel bedroom during occupied hours. Every device contains a short circuit isolator, so a cable fault on the Vigilon loop is confined to the section between two devices. Sensor sounders monitor their sounder element and include overload protection so the alarm still operates if part of the cable is damaged.
Engineering Design of the Gent S-Quad
The Gent S-Quad head is 117 mm in diameter and 49.6 mm high, rising to 63.8 mm on its base, and weighs about 110 g without the base. The ABS moulding is available in white (RAL 9010) and black, so the sensor can suit architectural ceilings in lobbies and hospitality areas. Devices operate from the Vigilon loop at 35 to 48 V and are LPCB approved, with the heat, optical, sounder and visual alarm functions tested to EN54-5, EN54-7, EN54-3 and EN54-23 respectively, plus EN54-17 for the isolator and EN54-18 for input/output functions.
Each S-Quad base is fixed to a metal back box with earth continuity maintained around the loop. An IP21 plate is available for the base, and accessories include a duct housing, dust covers and a removal tool for maintenance at height. A configurable input/output connection on the sensor can drive a remote indicator or accept a supervisory input, and sounder tones are synchronised by the panel across all Gent S-Quad sounders and S-Cubed devices on the system.
Key Features
From the Honeywell Gent data sheet and installation instructions, the main features of the Gent S-Quad range are:
- Heat, optical, optical heat, dual optical heat and dual optical heat with carbon monoxide sensing heads.
- Sensor sounder, voice sounder and EN54-23 visual alarm versions combine detection and alarm in one ceiling device.
- Certified sensitivity settings can be selected per location and programmed to change with the time of day.
- A short circuit isolator is built into every device on the loop.
- A configurable input/output connection supports a remote indicator or a supervisory input.
- Sounder output is synchronised and compatible with the S-Cubed range of sounders and visual alarms.
- White and black mouldings are available for different ceiling finishes.
- Up to 200 devices per loop, based on the 800 mA loop card.
Industrial Applications
The Gent S-Quad is designed for occupied buildings where false alarms are costly: hotel bedrooms and kitchens, hospital wards, student accommodation, shopping centres and office floors. In Oman, typical projects include hospitality developments in Muscat, healthcare facilities, educational campuses and the administration and welfare buildings that support industrial plants in the Sohar and Salalah free zones. The CO multi-sensor is useful in areas where steam or aerosols cause nuisance alarms with simple optical detectors, while the black version suits feature ceilings in lobbies.
Seven Star LLC can quote Gent S-Quad heads and bases together with the panel side of the system, such as the Gent VIGPLUS-72 Vigilon Plus control panel and the Gent VIG-LPC-EN Vigilon loop card. Where an industrial building also needs an external warning, Vigilon systems can trigger devices such as the E2S GNExB2X10 xenon strobe beacon through a loop interface. We help contractors match the right Gent S-Quad variant to each room in the fire alarm design.

About brand
Vigilon is the analog addressable fire alarm system that has made Gent a familiar name on British-specified buildings. The company's roots go back to 1872 in Leicester, and its panels and loop devices are designed to EN 54. Seven Star LLC supplies Gent fire alarm panels and system parts to contractors and facility teams in Oman, including Vigilon control panels and loop cards for existing sites.
Gent Vigilon panels and parts listed here
Three items represent the range on this page. The Vigilon Compact Plus is the smaller panel for one or two loops. The Vigilon Plus, listed as VIGPLUS-72, is the larger control panel for one to six loops with 72-hour standby capacity. The VIG-LPC-EN loop card adds or replaces a loop circuit in the VIGPLUS-24 and VIGPLUS-72 panels. On the loops, Gent uses its own device families, notably S-Quad devices that combine multi-sensor detection with sounder, voice and visual alarm options.
Ordering Gent fire alarm parts: what we need
Gent systems are configured per site, so details matter. Send the part number from the panel or card label, the panel type and number of loops, the panel firmware version if shown, and the device types on the loop. For a new panel, state loops required, network cards, printer or repeater options and battery size. We supply to projects in the GCC and check each part number against the manufacturer's documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on the variant, a Gent S-Quad head senses heat, smoke by dual angle optical scatter, or a combination of both, and the top model adds carbon monoxide sensing. The multi-sensor versions evaluate these signals together, which helps the Vigilon system reject nuisance sources such as steam.
Yes. Sensor sounder versions include an electronic sounder, voice versions add spoken messages, and some models include an EN54-23 visual alarm device. This reduces the number of ceiling devices and avoids separate sounder wiring because everything runs on the Vigilon loop.
S-Quad devices are designed for Vigilon and Vigilon Plus panels, but some newer sounder features may require updated panel software. Seven Star LLC can check the panel model and software version on your site before you order.
Each sensor plugs into an S4-700 base fixed to a metal back box, with the loop cable screen and earth continued through every device. An IP21 plate, duct housing and dust covers are available as accessories for specific locations.
