Fixed detection is covered by the Polytron line: the Polytron 8100 EC for toxic gases and oxygen with electrochemical sensors, the Polytron 8200 CAT for flammable gases with a catalytic sensor, the Polytron 7000 and the PIR 7000 point infrared detector for hydrocarbons. Dräger flame detectors on this page are the Flame 1500 and Flame 2500 (triple infrared) and the Flame 2700 (multi-infrared). Portable instruments include the Pac 8000 single-gas detector, the X-am 2500 for one to four gases and the X-am 8000 for up to seven. Where Dräger detectors are used
Polytron transmitters and PIR 7000 heads are found on wellhead and gathering facilities, gas plants, refineries, tank farms, LNG and petrochemical units, and in water treatment chlorine rooms. Portable Dräger gas detectors serve confined space entry, hot work permits and personal H2S monitoring, which is routine on sour fields in the GCC. Detector tubes remain a simple spot check where an electronic sensor is not available for the gas.

For a fixed transmitter, add the target gas, measuring range, output (4-20 mA, HART or relays), housing material, cable entry thread and the required hazardous-area approval. For portables, list the sensor configuration, pump or diffusion mode and the charger or calibration accessories needed. For tubes, give the gas and the range printed on the box.

How do I find the right Dräger sensor for a Polytron or X-am instrument?
Take the instrument type and the seven-digit part number printed on the sensor itself. Polytron 8100 EC transmitters use plug-in DrägerSensor electrochemical cells, while X-am and Pac instruments use their own compact sensor formats, so sensors are not interchangeable between fixed and portable units. With the gas, range and the old sensor number we can confirm the current part in the manufacturer's sensor documentation.
What is the difference between the Polytron 8200 CAT and the PIR 7000 for flammable gas?
The Polytron 8200 CAT measures with a catalytic bead sensor, which responds to most flammable gases including hydrogen but needs oxygen and can be poisoned by silicones or sulfur compounds. The PIR 7000 is an infrared detector for hydrocarbons, is not affected by those poisons and works without oxygen, but does not detect hydrogen. The choice follows the gas list.
Which approvals does Dräger issue for fixed gas and flame detectors?
Dräger fixed transmitters and flame detectors are offered with hazardous-area approvals such as ATEX and IECEx, and many versions carry North American approvals. The approvals depend on the exact version and part number. On request we provide the certificates and declarations the manufacturer issues for the item you order.
Are Dräger-Tubes and tubes from other makers interchangeable?
No. A detector tube is calibrated for the pump of its own manufacturer, with a defined stroke volume and flow characteristic. A Dräger-Tube such as Hydrogen Sulfide 100/a is read correctly only with a Dräger tube pump. If your site uses pumps from another maker, tell us which, so the tubes quoted match the pump you have.
