Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid Multi-Gas Monitor

Description

Overview

The Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid is a six-gas portable monitor designed for users who need more than a standard four-gas detector. It uses five sensor slots to measure up to six gases at once, and each slot accepts a wide choice of plug-and-play, field-replaceable sensors – 24 in total, including photoionization (PID) for volatile organic compounds and infrared sensors for hydrocarbons, methane and carbon dioxide. With hundreds of possible sensor combinations, the Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid can be set up for oxygen, toxic gas, combustible gas and VOC monitoring on the same instrument.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid to refineries, petrochemical complexes, gas plants, tank terminals and specialist confined-space contractors in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. Our Muscat team helps safety engineers select the sensor set that matches each job, and we provide engineering support for spare sensors, batteries, pumps and docking equipment.

Measurement Principle and Sensor Choice

The Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid combines several detection technologies in one housing. Catalytic bead sensors measure combustible gas from 0 to 100% LEL, or methane up to 5% by volume. Electrochemical cells measure toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide (0–500 ppm), carbon monoxide (0–1,500 ppm, or 0–9,999 ppm in the high range version), sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ammonia, chlorine, hydrogen cyanide, phosphine and others, and also oxygen from 0 to 30% by volume. Infrared sensors measure hydrocarbons in %LEL, methane in %LEL or % volume, and carbon dioxide up to 5% by volume without needing oxygen to work.

The PID sensor uses ultraviolet light to ionise VOC molecules and measures the resulting current, giving readings from 0 to 2,000 ppm with 0.1 ppm resolution. Settings let the user change the PID response factor quickly – for example to benzene for one task and butadiene for another – through the familiar menu. This flexibility is the main reason the Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid is chosen for aromatics units, solvent handling and tank cleaning, where a conventional four-gas monitor cannot see the toxic vapours present.

Engineering Design of the Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid

The instrument is built from Lexan, ABS and stainless steel with a protective, concussion-proof rubber overmold and is rated IP64. Without a pump it measures 135 x 77 x 48 mm and weighs about 409 g; with the optional integral sampling pump it measures 193 x 77 x 56 mm and about 511 g. The pump provides a sample draw of up to 30.5 m (100 ft), so a vessel, sewer or pit can be tested before anyone enters it.

A full-colour graphic LCD stays readable in a variety of lighting conditions, and navigation uses a five-way button with simple, customisable menus. Power comes from a rechargeable extended-range lithium-ion pack giving about 36 hours without the pump or 20 hours with it, or from a replaceable AA alkaline pack giving about 10.5 hours without the pump. Alarms include a powerful 95 dB audible alarm. The Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid is compatible with DSX Docking Stations, which automate calibration and bump testing and turn logged readings into fleet information through iNet Control software. With a docking station in place, supervisors can track trends, see when instrument maintenance will be due, and understand how each unit in the fleet is actually being used, instead of relying on paper calibration logs that are easy to lose or leave incomplete on a busy site.

Key Features

The Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid stands out among portable monitors for these reasons:

  • Up to six gases monitored at the same time from five sensor slots.
  • Twenty-four plug-and-play, field-replaceable sensors, including PID and infrared options.
  • Photoionization sensor for VOCs from 0 to 2,000 ppm with selectable response factors.
  • Infrared options for hydrocarbons, methane in %LEL or % volume, and carbon dioxide.
  • Optional integral sampling pump with up to 30.5 m (100 ft) sample draw.
  • Full-colour graphic LCD that stays readable in bright sun and in dark spaces.
  • Durable, concussion-proof overmold with IP64 protection.
  • Compatibility with DSX Docking Stations and iNet Control for maintenance and fleet data.

Industrial Applications

Typical users of the Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid in Oman include aromatics and refining units where benzene exposure must be checked, gas plants that need H2S and LEL readings together with SO2, and tank terminals at Sohar and Mina Al Fahal where vapour-freeing and tank cleaning require VOC measurement before entry. Industrial hygiene teams also use the instrument to survey leaks and to confirm that areas are safe after maintenance. Because the same unit can be reconfigured from one sensor set to another, contractors can use one fleet across many different jobs.

For simpler personal protection, many sites combine the MX6 with a four-gas instrument such as the Industrial Scientific Ventis Pro5 multi-gas monitor or the MSA ALTAIR 4XR, and keep single-gas units like the Dräger Pac 8000 single-gas detector for routine entry. Seven Star LLC supplies the genuine Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid, replacement sensors and docking stations to customers in Muscat, Duqm, Salalah and throughout the GCC, backed by engineering support from our team.

About brand
Before anyone enters a vessel or breaks a flange, somebody checks the air with a gas monitor. Industrial Scientific, founded in 1985 in Pittsburgh, USA, concentrates on that job: portable gas detection and monitoring for workers and work areas. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Industrial Scientific gas detectors and accessories for refineries, plants and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Industrial Scientific monitors listed

Three instruments are on this page. The Ventis Pro5 is a personal multi-gas monitor that, according to the manufacturer, reads up to five gases at once, has man-down and panic alarms, an optional pump and LENS wireless links between instruments. The MX6 iBrid is a multi-gas monitor for a larger sensor set. The Radius BZ1 is an area monitor, placed at a work site to watch the surrounding air.

Ordering Industrial Scientific gas monitors: what we need

These instruments are built to order around a sensor list. State each gas you need, for example LEL, O2, CO and H2S, and the LEL sensor type if your site standard names one. Say whether a pump is required, which battery, and the approval marking your site accepts. Add chargers, docking stations and test gas fittings if needed. For spare sensors, send the instrument model, its serial number and the sensor part number.
