AUMA LE 100.1 Linear Thrust Unit (128 kN)

Description

Overview

AUMA LE 100.1 is built for linear valves that need real muscle. An SA 14.6 working through it creates 50 to 128 kN of axial force, more than three times the LE 50.1 and about eleven times the LE 12.1. Four travel lengths between 80 and 400 mm and a mass of 23 to 35 kg make it a practical heavy-duty choice for large globe valves, sliding-stem valves and slide gates that must be motorised without moving to the largest LE size.

Seven Star LLC, a trusted AUMA supplier and regional supplier, quotes the AUMA LE 100.1 with SA 14.6 or SAR 14.6 actuators for power, water and industrial projects in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Since the lower thrust limit is already 50 kN, we first confirm that the valve really needs this size and compare the alternatives (LE 200.1 or a multi-turn gearbox) before issuing an offer.

Working Principle of the AUMA LE 100.1

Torque from the SA 14.6 rotates a nut in the AUMA LE 100.1, and the nut pushes the spindle in or out; a coupling stud with a metric thread ties the spindle to the valve stem. The spindle drive does not back-drive at rest. Dividing torque by 3.9 gives the approximate thrust in kN under AUMA’s mean adhesion factor of 0.15. With the standard design, clockwise actuator rotation extends the stem, while a retracting variant is an option.

Open-close combinations have a thrust band of 50 to 128 kN, with occasional peaks to 180 kN allowed. Pairing with the SAR 14.6 gives a band of 64 to 128 kN and 51.3 kN for modulating torque. At 4 rpm the stem advances 28 mm each minute, at 32 rpm it advances 224 mm, and the highest permitted actuator speed of 45 rpm yields 315 mm per minute.

Engineering Design of the AUMA LE 100.1

The actuator side is an F14 flange and the valve side a DIN 3358 flange with a 40 x 7 left-hand stem thread. Masses are 23 kg (80 mm), 26 kg (160 mm), 32 kg (320 mm) and 35 kg (400 mm); these exclude the actuator and the base plate.

A sealed IP67 housing with KS corrosion protection and an iron-mica finish keeps the unit serviceable in humid, salty plant areas. It tolerates -25 to +80 degrees Celsius as standard; hot, cold and arctic options are available from AUMA. Duty is S2-15 minutes, and AUMA warns that the full load should act only briefly while opening and closing.

Travel, Mass and Thrust Table for the AUMA LE 100.1

The table below summarises the AUMA LE 100.1 according to AUMA’s data sheet.

Maximum stroke Approximate weight Min. thrust (SA) Max. thrust (SA)
80 mm 23 kg 50 kN 128 kN
160 mm 26 kg 50 kN 128 kN
320 mm 32 kg 50 kN 128 kN
400 mm 35 kg 50 kN 128 kN

Thrust is constant across all four travel lengths; mass and stem travel are the variables.

AUMA LE 100.1 Compared With Its Neighbours

AUMA’s LE sheet lists six linear thrust units, and the closest neighbours of the AUMA LE 100.1 are the LE 70.1 below it and the LE 200.1 above it. The LE 70.1 uses an SA 14.2 and covers 25 to 64 kN with peaks of 92 kN, while the LE 100.1 uses the larger SA 14.6 for 50 to 128 kN and peaks of 180 kN; the LE 200.1 moves to an SA 16.2 for 87 to 217 kN. The LE 70.1 and the LE 100.1 share the F14 actuator flange, the 40 x 7 left-hand stem thread, the factor of 3.9 and the same four travel options of 80, 160, 320 and 400 mm, so a valve stem prepared for one size can accept the other.

The decision therefore rests on thrust. If the seating force of the valve stays below 64 kN, the LE 70.1 is sufficient, but a valve that needs 70 or 100 kN must use the LE 100.1, and one above 128 kN has to move to the LE 200.1, whose 48 x 8 thread and F16 flange require a different stem and bracket. Mass follows the same pattern, at 23 to 35 kg for the LE 70.1 and LE 100.1 against 45 to 68 kg for the LE 200.1.

Key Features

The AUMA LE 100.1 adds substantial thrust to AUMA’s linear range without moving to the LE 200.1:

  • Force of 50 to 128 kN, with peaks up to 180 kN tolerated.
  • Four travel lengths: 80, 160, 320 and 400 mm.
  • Fits the SA 14.6 for on-off duty and the SAR 14.6 for regulating duty (64 to 128 kN).
  • Left-hand 40 x 7 stem thread and a torque-to-thrust factor of 3.9.
  • F14 actuator interface and DIN 3358 valve flange.
  • Stem velocity between 28 and 315 mm/min.
  • 23 to 35 kg depending on the travel chosen.
  • No back-driving at rest, IP67 sealing and KS coating.

Industrial Applications

Think of large steam globe valves, heavy sliding-stem control valves and slide gates: all can ask for 50 to 128 kN, and the AUMA LE 100.1 delivers it from an actuator that remains an SA 14.6. Power stations and desalination plants in Oman often choose it instead of a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder because electric supply and AUMA controls are already on site.

Seven Star LLC supplies the LE 100.1 and its SA 14.6 or SAR 14.6 drive as a trusted supplier of AUMA products to EPC firms and utilities in Sohar, Duqm, Salalah and the wider GCC. Technical Specifications

In AUMA’s LE sheet the AUMA LE 100.1 row combines with the SA 14.6, and its values follow.

Parameter Specification
Model AUMA LE 100.1
Construction Spindle-type linear thrust unit
Drive SA 14.6 on-off; SAR 14.6 regulating
Travel options 80, 160, 320, 400 mm
Thrust 50 to 128 kN (SAR: 64 to 128 kN)
Peak thrust tolerated 180 kN
Actuator interface F14, DIN 3358 valve flange
Stem thread 40 x 7 LH
Torque-to-thrust factor 3.9
Stem velocity 28 to 315 mm/min
Mass 23 to 35 kg
Duty rating S2 – 15 min
Protection and climate IP67; -25 to +80 °C

Thrust of 50 to 128 kN corresponds to roughly 195 to 499 Nm at the SA 14.6 using the factor of 3.9, so a valve near the upper limit calls for a margin or the next size.

Stroke Time and Thrust Margins for the AUMA LE 100.1

Speed selection for the LE 100.1 starts from the SA 14.6 speed range: 28 mm/min at 4 rpm, 39 at 5.6 rpm, 56 at 8 rpm, 77 at 11 rpm, 112 at 16 rpm, 154 at 22 rpm, 224 at 32 rpm and 315 mm/min at the 45 rpm limit. A 160 mm travel takes almost six minutes at the slowest speed and about 43 seconds at 224 mm/min, while the full 400 mm travel needs roughly 76 seconds at 315 mm/min. Because the minimum thrust of this size is already 50 kN, the lower torque-switch setting is not suitable for light valves, and AUMA’s tolerance of plus or minus 20 percent on the thrust setting means that valves with a seating force close to the 128 kN limit should be sized with a margin or moved to the LE 200.1.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.
