Brand: AUMA
AUMA SV and MEC Seawater-Resistant Valve Actuator
Description
Overview
AUMA SV and MEC, listed by AUMA as SV+MEC, is a seawater-resistant electric globe valve actuator with separate MEC controls, built for ships, offshore structures and coastal plants where aluminium housings would not survive for long. The actuator housing is made of bronze, all external screws are stainless steel, and the MEC controls housing is aluminium finished in a premium powder coating, so the complete drive resists seawater even over long periods. With maximum torques of 25 Nm (SV 05.1) and 50 Nm (SV 07.1) for open-close and positioning duty, the AUMA SV and MEC is the actuator behind small seawater valves in cooling, ballast, firefighting and service systems.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA SV and MEC to shipyards, marine contractors, port and naval-support facilities, desalination plants and offshore operators across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Because the actuator and its controls are specified separately, our Muscat team helps you define connector types, cable lengths and signal interfaces so that the pair arrives configured for the vessel or plant.
Working Principle of the AUMA SV and MEC
The SV actuator is a variable-speed valve actuator driven by a single-phase AC motor with speed control by Hall sensors, so the drive runs slowly near the end positions and at full speed in between. All parameters are set at the MEC controls, which contain the switchgear, the power supply unit and the interface to the control system. Limit switching is contactless via Hall sensors, supporting turns per stroke of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 through the reduction gearing, while torque switching is achieved by electronic current measurement and is infinitely adjustable.
The controls switch the actuator off automatically when the valve reaches its end position, when motor overheating is detected or when a torque overload occurs. A manual drive allows setting and emergency operation, and the handwheel does not rotate during electric operation. Control inputs use 24 V DC signals via opto-couplers, status outputs are potential-free change-over contacts for end positions and a collective fault signal, and a position transmitter with 4 to 20 mA output is available as an option.
Engineering Design of the AUMA SV and MEC
Two sizes are documented in the marine data sheet: the SV 05.1 with a maximum torque of 25 Nm and the SV 07.1 with 50 Nm, both with output speeds of 2.5 to 20 rpm, running torques of 13 and 25 Nm and valve attachment to EN ISO 5211 F07. The actuator weighs about 9 kg or 14 kg, the MEC weighs about 1.8 kg, and a handwheel or crank of 125 mm diameter according to VG 85 081 is fitted for manual operation.
The marine design is qualified accordingly. Shock resistance is tested to BV 0430 at 180 g as standard, with 400 g as an option on a special valve connection, vibration is tested from 4 to 90 Hz to BV 0440, and electromagnetic compatibility meets limit value class 2 under VG 95373 for marine use. Electrical connection is through ITT Cannon plug/socket connectors, with female sockets and cables not included in the basic version, and enclosure protection is IP67 with IP68 as an option. The ambient range is –25 °C to +70 °C, and local controls with a lockable LOCAL-OFF-REMOTE selector switch can be fitted to the MEC.
Key Features
The following characteristics define the AUMA SV and MEC combination:
- A seawater-resistant bronze actuator housing with stainless steel external screws ensures long life in continuous contact with salt water.
- A separate MEC controls unit in seawater-resistant, electro dip-coated aluminium keeps the electronics apart from the actuator.
- Maximum torques of 25 Nm and 50 Nm for open-close and positioning duty cover small globe valves in marine and coastal systems.
- Shock tests for the military shipbuilding industry and tested vibration resistance support naval and commercial vessel use.
- Contactless Hall-sensor limit switching and electronic torque measurement avoid mechanical switch wear.
- Variable-speed motor control gives smooth positioning and soft handling of the valve seat.
- Up to four binary inputs and outputs with configurable signal assignment, plus optional 4 to 20 mA position feedback and analogue set-point input.
- Local controls at the MEC and a manual drive allow setting and emergency operation without electrical power.
Industrial Applications
The AUMA SV and MEC is intended for small seawater valves on vessels and offshore platforms: ballast and bilge, firefighting and cooling-water systems, seawater service and sanitary lines, and shipboard flow-control valves, as well as seawater intake and discharge valves in coastal power and desalination plants. The combination of bronze housing and shock-tested design makes it equally relevant to naval support craft, patrol boats and dockside installations.
In the Sultanate of Oman, with its long coastline, active ports at Salalah, Sohar and Duqm and a growing marine and shipyard sector, such actuators are relevant to commercial and naval vessel builders and to the seawater systems of coastal industry. In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA SV and MEC with project-level support covering class and approval questions, connector selection and documentation, and coordination with AUMA on the standard and marine variants. Because the AUMA SV and MEC separates the controls from the actuator, the MEC unit can be installed in a dry, accessible position while the bronze actuator sits at the valve, and the AUMA SV and MEC therefore fits marine layouts where space at the valve is limited. Related AUMA products worth comparing with the AUMA SV and MEC include the AUMA SVM-SVMR, the AUMA SG2+MEC and the AUMA SVC-SVCR, which cover neighbouring duty types and sizes.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need

The actuator housing is made of bronze, all external screws are stainless steel, and the MEC controls housing is aluminium with a premium powder coating. Together they resist seawater even over a longer time.
The MEC controls are mounted separately and contain the switchgear, power supply unit and DCS interface, so electronics can be placed in a protected location while the compact actuator sits at the valve. All parameters are set at the MEC.
The range has been shock tested for the military shipbuilding industry (180 g to BV 0430, 400 g optional), vibration tested to BV 0440 and meets marine EMC class 2. Specific class approvals should be confirmed for each project with Seven Star LLC.
