AUMA SAEx 07.2 Explosion-Proof Multi-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

AUMA SAEx 07.2 opens the SAEx series as its smallest frame: 10 to 30 Nm adjustable tripping torque (S2-15 min), an EN ISO 5210 F07 / F10 flange and a compact 160 mm handwheel for Ex-certified open-close duty.

Seven Star LLC, a trusted supplier of AUMA products for Oman and the GCC, quotes the SAEx 07.2 as genuine factory equipment. Muscat engineering offices and plants around Sohar and Duqm get quotation, delivery planning and start-up support from one regional team. Operating Principle of the AUMA SAEx 07.2

In the SAEx 07.2, a squirrel-cage motor and gear stage turn the output drive, a counter gear mechanism registers the OPEN and CLOSED end positions and torque switches guard both directions. Between 4 and 125 rpm the trip limit is 30 Nm; only the 180 rpm version eases to 25 Nm. The actuator is self-locking up to 90 rpm (108 rpm at 60 Hz) and relies on AMExC or ACExC controls for operation.

Engineering Design of the AUMA SAEx 07.2

At 22 kg (23 kg at 32 rpm and above) the SAEx 07.2 is light enough for many sites to handle with a small hoist or two technicians, which helps keep outage windows short. Set the torque switches below the 30 Nm limit with margin for the valve’s seating torque, then record the actual trip settings. If the valve stem is longer than the 26 mm (F07) or 34 mm (F10) bore allows, a stem extension or a different frame must be chosen before delivery.

Wiring uses the AUMA Ex plug/socket connector (KT) with spring-clamp control terminals and screw-type motor terminals. Sealing is IP68 as standard, and the 12.5 W motor heater is optional.

Key Features of the AUMA SAEx 07.2

Data points that matter most when specifying the AUMA SAEx 07.2:

  • Tripping torque of 10 to 30 Nm (S2-15 min) and up to 20 Nm at S2-30 min.
  • Speed-dependent run torque between 11 Nm and 10 Nm at S2-15 min.
  • Output speeds of 4–180 rpm at 50 Hz, with up to 60 starts per hour.
  • A 160 mm handwheel; weight 22 kg (4–22 rpm), 23 kg (32–180 rpm).
  • Motor ratings of 0.02–0.30 kW (400 V) with 0.4–1.0 A nominal current.

Selecting the AUMA SAEx 07.2 for Your Valve

Choose the SAEx 07.2 when the valve data sheet calls for no more than 30 Nm tripping torque and the actuator must stay as light as possible in a classified area. At 22 to 23 kg it is among the lightest members of the range, and its tripping torque stays at 30 Nm all the way up to 125 rpm before easing to 25 Nm at 180 rpm. Because its handwheel is only 160 mm in diameter, it suits tight pipe racks, instrument skids and valve manifolds where larger handwheels would foul neighbouring equipment. Anything that needs more than 30 Nm moves to the SAEx 07.6 on the same F07/F10 flange pattern.

Frame 07.2 is the entry point of the Ex multi-turn series: 10 to 30 Nm, 22 to 23 kg and a 160 mm handwheel. Valves that need between 30 and 60 Nm move up to the SAEx 07.6, which keeps the F07 / F10 flange and the same handwheel.

AUMA SAEx 07.2 Torque and Speed Data

AUMA publishes these limits for the AUMA SAEx 07.2 at nominal voltage and +40 °C ambient temperature. Illustrative calculation, not AUMA data: a valve needing 18 turns per stroke takes 270 s at 4 rpm, 24 s at 45 rpm and 6 s at 180 rpm.

Speed, rpm at 50 Hz Tripping torque limit (S2-15 / S2-30), Nm Permitted run torque (S2-15 / S2-30), Nm
4–125 30 / 20 11 / 6
180 25 / 20 10 / 5

Worked Sizing Example for the SAEx 07.2 (Illustrative Calculation)

Consider a chemical-injection isolation valve in a Zone 2 area that the valve maker rates at 18 Nm maximum torque. The SAEx 07.2 covers this with a 12 Nm margin below its 30 Nm limit, and the 22 kg mass can be borne by the existing pipe support. If the same valve is later replaced by a stiffer model rated at 45 Nm, the SAEx 07.6 is the natural replacement. A fast-acting variant at 180 rpm is less suitable, since torque falls to 25 Nm at that speed and the actuator is not self-locking there. This is an illustrative calculation, not AUMA data.

Thermoswitches, where chosen instead of the standard PTC thermistors, must be backed by a thermal overcurrent device under EN 60079-14. AUMA also lists metric cable threads as standard, with Pg, NPT or G threads optional.

Industrial Applications

Hazardous-area instrument manifolds, small block valves on gas-metering skids, sample-conditioning panels and chemical-injection lines are typical homes for the AUMA SAEx 07.2. The low weight makes retrofitting a manual valve on an existing pipe rack straightforward, and the 160 mm handwheel still allows emergency operation when power is lost. In Oman, such valves are common on wellhead and gathering-station equipment where the zone rating is Zone 1 or Zone 2.

In the Gulf’s downstream plants, small Ex-rated valves also appear in fuel-additive dosing, flare-gas knock-out drum drains and utility isolation. Seven Star LLC supplies the SAEx 07.2 to contractors and plant owners in Muscat, Sohar and Duqm who want one genuine AUMA actuator family from the smallest to the largest frame.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.
