Brand:

AUMA SQEx 07.2 Explosion-Proof Part-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

AUMA SQEx 07.2 is the second explosion-proof frame and gives a tripping torque window of 100 Nm to 300 Nm with a run torque of 105 Nm for 15 minutes. Its housing, flange and handwheel are identical to those of the SQEx 05.2, so a project can standardise brackets and spares across both sizes while covering a doubled torque range. It is documented under certificate DEKRA 13ATEX0016 X with the markings in AUMA’s technical data.

Seven Star LLC, the official trusted supplier and regional supplier for AUMA, supplies the AUMA SQEx 07.2 to hazardous-area projects throughout Oman and the GCC. We work with EPC contractors in Sohar and Salalah to align the actuator marking, controls and cabling with the area classification package.

Run Torque and Why It Matters

Explosion-proof drives are limited by the temperature their motors may reach, so AUMA gives a specific run torque for the AUMA SQEx 07.2: 105 Nm for 15 minutes of running time. This is the permissible continuous load while the actuator moves the valve, and it is distinct from the 100 to 300 Nm tripping range, which governs seating and protection. A valve whose running torque exceeds 105 Nm cannot be driven by this frame in the documented duty even if its seating torque is within 300 Nm.

Eight operating times are listed at 50 Hz, from 4 s to 63 s, with PTC thermistors protecting the motor. The type of duty is short-time duty S2 – 15 min, classes A and B per EN ISO 22153, valid for nominal voltage, +40 °C ambient and run torque load. Up to 60 starts per hour are permitted, so the SQEx is an on-off drive and not a modulating one; modulating hazardous-area duty needs the SQREx version.

Engineering Design of the AUMA SQEx 07.2

The AUMA SQEx 07.2 uses an F05/F07 flange with F10 as an option, a coupling for shafts up to 25.4 mm cylindrical, 22 mm square and 22 mm two-flat, and a 160 mm handwheel with 11 or 16 turns per 90 degrees. The swing angle is adjustable between 75 degrees and just under 105 degrees as standard, with optional ranges on request.

The unit weighs about 25 kg, or 30 kg with base and lever. Electrical connection is by the AUMA Ex plug/socket connector (KT), and the terminal compartment is additionally sealed against the interior for IP68 protection. The standard ambient range is -30 °C to +40 °C or +60 °C depending on the version, and options extend the lower limit to -40 °C or -60 °C.

Key Features

The AUMA SQEx 07.2 gives hazardous-area projects a higher torque class without a larger housing.

  • A 100 Nm to 300 Nm tripping range and a 105 Nm run torque double the capability of the smaller Ex frame.
  • Gas and dust markings listed under DEKRA 13ATEX0016 X let one actuator serve several zone and temperature class requirements.
  • Housing, flange and 160 mm handwheel are shared with the SQEx 05.2, so brackets and spares can be common.
  • Eight selectable times from 4 s to 63 s match both emergency isolation and gentle closing.
  • Motor protection is by PTC thermistors, which need a tripping device in the Ex controls.
  • Screw-type motor terminals and spring-clamp control terminals sit behind the Ex plug/socket connector.
  • The sealed terminal compartment separates field wiring from the actuator interior.
  • On-off duty only, up to 60 starts per hour; modulating hazardous-area service points to the SQREx.

Selection Guidance for the AUMA SQEx 07.2

Specifying the AUMA SQEx 07.2 follows a short checklist. First, confirm the valve running torque against the 105 Nm run torque, because that is the continuous load the explosion-proof motor is rated for. Second, match the marking in AUMA’s data sheet to the zone and gas group on the area drawing. Third, decide the controls: AMExC for simple switching duty or ACExC when fieldbus and non-intrusive setting are required.

Record the chosen options on the purchase specification, including cable entry thread and heater voltage, because explosion-proof actuators are built to order and cannot be altered easily once certified. Finally, check that the cable routing, glands and earthing details on the project drawing agree with the Ex plug/socket connector supplied.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA SQEx 07.2 belongs on moderate-torque valves in hazardous areas: butterfly valves on fuel oil and solvent lines, ball valves at loading arms and metering skids, and isolation valves on gas treatment trains. Refinery and petrochemical utilities in Sohar often combine many such valves in one package, and a single housing size for both 05.2 and 07.2 simplifies maintenance.

Seven Star LLC supplies the SQEx 07.2 on request, with local technical backing.

Neighbouring explosion-proof sizes are the AUMA SQEx 05.2 and AUMA SQEx 10.2.

Background on the whole range sits on the AUMA SQEx explosion-proof part-turn actuator page, while the AUMA SQ part-turn actuator range covers non-hazardous service and the AUMA MATIC AM/AC integral actuator controls serve safe-area switching.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.

Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
