AUMA AC 01.2 AUMATIC Microprocessor Actuator Controls

Description

AUMA AC 01.2 microprocessor actuator controls

The AUMA AC 01.2 (AUMATIC) is a microprocessor-based actuator control unit with comprehensive functions. It is mounted on SA .2 multi-turn and SQ .2 part-turn actuators and turns them into configurable, diagnosable field devices. The AC 01.2 suits applications that need self-adapting control functions, data logging, a configurable interface or full integration of valve and actuator into a plant asset management system. Seven Star LLC supplies AUMA actuators and controls in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat; use this page as a guide when preparing an enquiry.

During development of the AC 01.2 the manufacturer put particular emphasis on user-friendliness and on how easily actuators can be integrated into the DCS. A large graphic display allows menu-controlled programming, and with a fieldbus connection the controls can be programmed from the control room.

Local controls and display

Local controls consist of a lockable selector switch, push buttons and indication lights, together with an LCD for status monitoring and parametrisation support. Setting of the actuator and the controls can be done non-intrusively when the MWG magnetic limit and torque transmitter is fitted, which means the housing does not have to be opened at the valve. A Bluetooth interface to a notebook or Android tablet allows access with the AUMA CDT software. Operation data logging stores events, and the controls can be mounted separately from the actuator on a wall bracket when vibration, heat or access make a direct mounting inconvenient.

Diagnostics and special functions of AC 01.2

  • Time-stamped event report
  • Torque characteristics logging
  • Continuous recording of temperatures and vibration within the actuator
  • Counting of starts and motor running times
  • Torque bypass to unseat tightly seated valves
  • Functions for extending operating times to avoid water hammer, programmable stepping mode
  • Process controller (PID) and freely defined intermediate positions
  • Behaviour in case of emergency and loss of communication is programmable
  • Limit and torque as analogue signals when combined with MWG

Interfaces and system integration

Parallel control inputs accept different voltages (DC/AC) and the programmable potential-free output contacts report status. Where a fieldbus is used, the interface can be offered with component redundancy. The list of protocols is wide: Profibus DP/DP-V2, Profinet, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, HART, Foundation Fieldbus and WirelessHART. Selecting the protocol early is important because the interface card and the wiring diagram depend on it. See also the AUMA Fieldbus page and the Industrial Ethernet page of this series for guidance on the protocol families.

Selection checklist for AC 01.2

  • Actuator type and size the controls will be mounted on (SA .2 or SQ .2)
  • Supply voltage, frequency and whether 24 V DC external supply is needed
  • Control philosophy: parallel, analogue or fieldbus; protocol and redundancy requirement
  • Required feedback signals and number of programmable output contacts
  • Reversing contactors or thyristors, depending on duty and switching frequency
  • Local or wall-bracket mounting and cable entry type
  • Functional safety needs; for SIL functions use the SIL version of the controls
  • Ambient temperature within -30 °C to +70 °C

Commissioning and maintenance of AC 01.2

Commissioning is menu-driven. Set the end positions and seating mode, define torque limits, assign the output contacts, select the behaviour on signal loss and test the local and remote command path. Save the parameter file with the order number so that a replacement unit can be configured quickly. Phase monitoring with automatic phase correction avoids damage from incorrect phase sequence during site reconnection. Periodic maintenance is largely based on the data stored in the controls: check start counters, torque curves and temperature logs for drifts before they become failures.

AC 01.2 in Oman and GCC installations

In the Gulf the controls face high ambient temperatures, dust and long cable runs. IP68 protection, KS corrosion class and the option of separate wall mounting address these factors. Water treatment and desalination plants appreciate the extended-operating-time function that avoids water hammer, while power and oil and gas sites value the diagnostic and fieldbus functions for remote supervision.

AC 01.2 compared with AM and the explosion-proof versions

Controls Role

Information to send with an RFQ

  • Part number: AC 01.2 and the actuator model it belongs to
  • Supply voltage, frequency and phases
  • Protocol and I/O requirements
  • Mounting: on actuator or wall bracket (with cable distance)
  • Ambient range and enclosure needs
  • Quantity and delivery location

Site conditions in Oman for the AC 01.2

Valves and their accessories in Oman work in demanding conditions: high ambient temperatures, direct sun on outdoor pipe racks, dust, and corrosive coastal air at many oil, gas and water sites. When you specify the AC 01.2, confirm the pressure and temperature ratings, body and trim materials and any sour-service or hazardous-area requirements against the actual line data, and check that seals and soft parts suit the process medium and the full temperature range.

For reliable operation, plan access for maintenance, define which spare parts are kept on site, and record the configuration of each installed AC 01.2. Sending the complete process data sheet with your RFQ allows the selection to be checked before the order is placed.

Documents and quotation

Send the part number AC 01.2, the application and the quantity, and Seven Star LLC will confirm which official documents are available for your configuration. Please do not rely on a general description alone: the order data, wiring diagram number and explosion-protection marking of the delivered unit are what count for engineering and commissioning.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat serving customers across Oman and the GCC. Quotations are prepared against your enquiry data and are confirmed individually.

About brand

AUMA builds electric actuators for industrial valves, gates and dampers. The company was founded in 1964 near Stuttgart by Werner Riester and Rudolf Dinse, moved its headquarters to Müllheim in south-west Germany in the early 1970s, and still trades as the owner-managed AUMA Riester GmbH & Co. KG. Its actuators run isolation and control valves in water, power, oil and gas and process plants worldwide.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA multi-turn and part-turn actuators, actuator controls, gearboxes and spare parts for buyers in Oman and the GCC. We work from the nameplate data so that a replacement matches the installed actuator, controls and gearbox.

AUMA company profile

Where AUMA actuators are used

Water transmission and treatment is the largest use: pipeline isolation valves, pumping stations, desalination plants and sluice gates. AUMA actuators also run valves in power plant steam, feedwater and cooling systems, pipelines and tank farms, refineries and chemical plants, and on ships and offshore platforms. In the Gulf, check the ambient temperature rating, since actuators in direct sun can exceed 50 °C, and specify the enclosure protection for sand and humidity.

Ordering AUMA actuators and spare parts: what we need

For a replacement, send photos of the actuator, motor and controls nameplates: type designation, commission or order number, serial number and wiring diagram number. AUMA identifies the original build from the commission number. For a new actuator, add the valve type, required torque or thrust at the worst case, number of turns or swing angle, operating time, mounting flange to ISO 5210 or ISO 5211, stem or shaft dimensions, duty (open-close or modulating), supply voltage and frequency, control signals or fieldbus, and the hazardous-area marking required on site.

Facts checked against AUMA product information and the company history published by AUMA, October 2026.
