Rotork

Electric valve actuators are what most engineers picture when they hear the name Rotork, a company founded in 1957 and based in Bath, United Kingdom. Its catalog also reaches into pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, control valve actuators and instrument-air accessories. Rotork product families on this page

The IQ3 is the intelligent multi-turn electric actuator for gate, globe and sluice valves, and the IQT3 is its part-turn counterpart for ball, butterfly and plug valves. For control valves there are the CVA and CMA electric actuators, built for continuous modulating duty. The Skilmatic SI3 is a self-contained electro-hydraulic actuator used where a fail-safe stroke is required. On the fluid power side the page lists GP/GH scotch yoke pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and the CP compact pneumatic quarter-turn unit. Two instrument brands sold under the Rotork name complete the list: Fairchild, with the Model 1000 no-bleed precision regulator, and YTC, with the YT-1000 electro-pneumatic and YT-3300 smart positioners.

Where Rotork actuators are used

Typical duties are isolation and block valves on pipelines and tank farms, motor-operated valves in refineries and power plants, sluice gates and large butterfly valves in water and wastewater works, and emergency shutdown valves on oil and gas facilities across the GCC.

Ordering Rotork actuators and parts: what we need

For an existing unit, send the serial number and the wiring diagram number from the nameplate; these two identify the exact build. For a new selection we need the valve type and size, torque or thrust, stem or shaft details, operating time, supply voltage, phase and frequency, the hazardous area certification, and any bus or remote control option. For pneumatic units add the air supply pressure and the fail position.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Rotork IQ3 and IQT3?
The IQ3 is a multi-turn actuator that rotates the valve stem nut through many turns, which suits gate, globe and sluice valves. The IQT3 is a part-turn actuator with a quarter-turn output for ball, butterfly and plug valves. Both belong to the same generation, so they are set up in a similar way, but they are not mechanically interchangeable.
How do I identify a Rotork actuator for spare parts?
Read the nameplate on the actuator body. The serial number and the wiring diagram number are the two entries the manufacturer's records are indexed by, and they define the motor, gearing, voltage and options of that unit. Send both, with a photo of the plate, and name the part you need or describe the fault.
When is a CVA or CMA used instead of an IQ3?
CVA and CMA actuators are made for control valves that move almost constantly in small steps to follow a control signal. The IQ3 and IQT3 are mainly applied to isolating and regulating valves with far fewer movements. Send the duty, the stroke or rotation, thrust or torque and the signal type so the right family can be checked.
Are Fairchild regulators and YTC positioners Rotork products?
Yes, both names appear under the Rotork brand, and older units may carry only the Fairchild or YTC name on the label. The Model 1000 regulator and the YT-1000 and YT-3300 positioners are ordered by their own model codes, so send the complete code from the label along with the supply pressure and signal span.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of Rotork?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier and is not a distributor, agent or service center of Rotork. We source Rotork products through commercial channels, check the model and serial details against the manufacturer's documentation, and provide the manufacturer's datasheet and the certificates the manufacturer issues with the order on request.
