Description

A thin-film high-pressure sensor up to 1000 bar for intrinsically safe circuits

The JUMO TAROS H48 Ex (type 404740) measures relative pressure of liquids, steam and gases from 100 bar up to 1000 bar (and 2000 to 15000 psi). It is built with thin-film technology, tolerates more than 10 million load changes and is marked II 2G Ex ib IIC T6 to T4 Gb and II 2D Ex ib IIIC T85 to T135 degC Db when connected to a certified intrinsically safe transmitter supply unit. The datasheet lists renewable energy, shipbuilding, mechanical and plant engineering, hydraulic systems and test bench construction as areas of application, and mentions an optional H2-ready version for mobile hydrogen applications with a test pressure up to 1050 bar.

Ordering notes and options

The 100 bar range (code 464) is marked in the datasheet as not suitable for hydrogen applications. Optional extras include UL or DNV approval versions, an inverted output, a restrictor in the pressure channel for pressure peaks, oil and grease free preparation, a TAG number, a calibration certificate and an inspection certificate 3.1 for accuracy. The datasheet also lists a zero-point correction by magnetic pen (part no. 00736330) for the teach function, which maintains reliable readings. Ambient temperature classes tie directly to the Ex temperature class: -40 to +85 degC for T4 and equipment protection level Gb or T135 degC for dust, falling to -40 to +55 degC for T6 or T85 degC.

The datasheet cites high accuracy across the entire operating temperature range, but note that process temperature is limited by the same T-class table, and that the operating location according to the UL approval is indoors. Climatic limits are relative humidity up to 90 % without condensation and up to 100 % including condensation, at site altitudes up to 2000 m above sea level, and electromagnetic compatibility follows DIN EN 61326-2-3:2022 with emission class B. Cables with a conductor cross section of at most AWG 16 and a diameter of 6 to 8 mm are required for the line socket version.

Installation, grounding and accessories

The device is grounded through its process connection. It may alternatively be grounded through the electrical connection, but grounding through both is not admissible. Supply must come from a certified intrinsically safe [Ex i] transmitter supply unit and a limited-energy circuit as described in the datasheet; JUMO lists an Ex-i repeater power supply and input isolating amplifier, part no. 00577948. UL-approved PUR cables of 2, 5 and 10 m (00776248, 00776250, 00776252), 4-pole M12 line sockets (00404585 straight, 00409334 angled), on-site calibration including DAkkS (00758363) and a service deployment (00427970) complete the accessory list.

For a non-Ex pressure transmitter see the published dTRANS p30 and the pressure instrumentation category. A useful enquiry states the pressure range, medium, temperature class needed, zone, approval marks required (UL, DNV or hydrogen), thread and connector.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
