The JUMO flowTRANS MAG H20 (type 406065) is a compact electromagnetic flowmeter that measures flow and temperature of conductive liquids. It mounts in plastic or metal pipes and measures very small volumes precisely; the sizes are DN 6, DN 15, DN 20 and DN 25 with full-scale flows of 5, 35, 75 and 150 l/min.

A display shows flow and temperature, and a Tri-Clamp version is securely welded for hygienic lines. Two variants exist: IO-Link with configurable analog outputs and Single Pair Ethernet with connection to the JUMO Cloud, both set up through the smartCONNECT app. The data sheet names the food and beverage industry and auxiliary systems such as cooling and process water.

Typical use

Small flows in cooling circuits, dosing lines, CIP supply and beverage processing are the natural fit, since DN 6 starts at 0.005 l/min. Because it also reports temperature, one device replaces a flow sensor and a temperature probe in the line.

The IO-Link version delivers values and diagnostics to a PLC master, while the SPE version feeds cloud dashboards over a two-wire cable up to 500 m. Both versions have the display on the device, so operators can read flow and temperature locally without a laptop.

Specifying and installing

State the size, the connection (thread or Tri-Clamp), the seal, the interface and the nominal pressure. The pressure loss diagram in the data sheet helps check DN 6 at high flows, and a derived rule is to keep the pipe full and the flow direction arrow correct. In hygienic lines, use the welded Tri-Clamp version with the correct gasket and avoid air pockets, because bubbles cause unstable readings in any electromagnetic meter.

The liquid must be conductive above 20 uS/cm, so demineralised water is not suitable. Confirm the pressure rating, cable and radio approvals for your country before ordering, and ask for the nominal pressure of the chosen connection, because the thread and clamp versions can differ in their limits and in their approved medium temperature.

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
